You might have spotted our new logo making a cheeky appearance ahead of the studio reopening and wondered where it came from…

The genius behind it is the incredible Steph Hughes – illustrator, musician and printmaker extraordinaire. Steph’s creative journey started with gig posters for her own bands and mates, and has since grown into a huge body of work with some of Melbourne’s most loved institutions: Triple R, Arts Centre Melbourne, Melbourne Museum, ABC, Golden Plains Festival, Oxfam, Reclink Community Cup… not to mention editorial illustrations, logos, maps, murals and iconic designs for Milk Records and countless local bands (including her own, the recently reunited Dick Diver).

Fun fact: our logo actually started out as artwork for Jess’ band Tender Buttons. But when it came time to give Love Shack Studios its look, we all agreed it was the perfect fit – playful, bold, cosy and electrified… just like us!

Huge thanks to Steph for creating a design that feels so at home here in the Shack. We couldn’t be prouder to show it off.

It’s Bisexual Awareness Week and we want to tell all our incredible Bi friends - we see you, we love you and we celebrate you for all that you are.

Bisexuality means being attracted to more than one gender, yet bi+ folks are too often erased or misunderstood. This week is about visibility, love and pushing back against biphobia so that every part of our q***r community is recognised and supported.

Here’s to more love, more pride and more Bi visibility.

Happy Wear it Purple Day!

At Love Shack Studios, we’re proud to be a q***r-owned business standing strong with LGBTQIA+ young people today and every day.

This year’s theme, Bold Voices, Bright Futures, reminds us of the power of community, activism and creativity in shaping a brighter tomorrow.

Inspired by the incredible artwork of Lee Evatt (he/they), we celebrate the generations of performers and activists who’ve paved the way, and the young people continuing to lead with courage and pride.

By wearing purple, we send a powerful message:

You are seen
You are supported
You are celebrated exactly as you are

Here’s to bold voices, bright futures and a world where every young person feels safe, proud and free to be themselves.

Meet Amir, the legend behind that ripper guitar solo in Take Me Away for Disney’s Freaky Friday and the brand-new Freakier Friday! Not only did he write and record the solo for the movie version, he was also the guitar coach for Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis (iconic, right?).

Jess crossed paths with Amir at the Hollywood world premiere, waiting in the VIP crowd for Pink Slip to perform Take Me Away live. They ended up having the best chat about the new version recorded for the requel - Amir wanted to strip it back, make it darker and rawer, closer to Lash’s original. And he nailed it. The result? Pure garage rock magic.

So stoked to have met him, and even better, we’ve stayed in touch. Life, eh?!

Jess is having an epic career resurgence, with their early 2000s band Lash officially back on the big screen!

They’re currently in LA, walking the red carpet at the Hollywood premiere of Freakier Friday - the much-anticipated reboot starring Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis!

If you grew up in the 2000s, you’ll remember ‘Take Me Away’, performed on screen by Lohan’s character Anna in her band Pink Slip. But the band behind the anthem? That was Lash - with Jess on guitar - and the track quickly became a cult classic, still hailed as one of the defining songs of early 2000s teen cinema.

From teen punk trailblazer to founder of Love Shack Studios in Footscray, Jess continues to break ground and make noise, entirely on their own terms.

We couldn’t be more thrilled for you Jess!
