Dementia is an uninvited, silent thief. But it also taught our family how to love deeper and harder than we ever knew possible. Back in October 2019, I took my mum on a date. This was the very first video we shared together... an unexpected celebration which would form the begin of an intoxicating story of love, playfulness and learning.
Role play is an incredibly powerful activity we can lean into with our loved ones. When we soften the barriers of time and identity, we meet them where they're at. We walk with them in their footsteps, in their reality. Presence = love 💜

It so visually represented your reality… slivers of clarity surrounded by a fog of background noise all competing for your attention. That beautiful, ever-curious look in your eyes seeking safety and familiarity 🤍

A herculean effort to bring 5,540 lovingly hand-rolled Memento sticks into the hearts and homes of families all over the world 🙏🏼 From Forresters Beach to Falkirk UK, from Valentine to Verona USA, an immense amount of gratitude for supporting this incense crafted with intention and love. A momentous few weeks! Thrilled to have finally started shipping your pre-orders for my new 𝗠𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝗜𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗲 😊
✈️ All international orders are currently in transit, and Aussie orders will start going out from end of this week.

11.11 is a day of reminiscence for my family. Remembering our warm-hearted Oma and the joy and connection she gave so effortlessly. (Today would have been her 93rd birthday.)
It’s also then fitting that I launch my hand-made Christmas incense today, MEMENTO. Inspired in the image of her, made for every family keen to use the alluring aromatic smoke of an incense stick to pause, make time for one another and connect. Scents were such a powerful way to spark conversation with mum.
I’ve hand-ground Bay Leaves and Rosemary (for their know calming & focussing properties), blended these with aromatic Juniper wood and Sandalwood then added memory-laden spices of Cinnamon, Star Anise, Ginger and Cloves.
So on Remembrance Day - I set forth this little passion project into the world to see how many other family homes it can touch too. If you’re curious and keen, you can pre-order a tin of these now at www.guycense.com 🤎🫚🪵🌿 (orders will ship 1st week December)

🙏🏻 Thank you everyone who's messaged or contributed to The Guilty Carer chat about falls, and all the healthy conversations that have been shared about helping loved ones adjust to using mobility aids. I wanted to share these images and short video clips, from the moment that made us realise Oma needed a rollator walker.
We had been out in Sydney for a day visit to look at the Christmas window displays, and Oma had a horrible fall inside a department store just seconds after I'd let go of her arm to pick something up. A golf-ball sized haematoma on her right temple resulted in another ambulance to hospital and a really late train trip back home.
Despite our predicament, she still took great pride in arranging her hair under the bandage... "Bootiful!". The resulting bruise took days to appear and weeks to clear up.
