"Mockbuster" is screening at New Farm Cinemas tomorrow night (Tue 1st Sep), including a Q&A with director Anthony Frith.

"Mockbuster" documents Adelaide filmmaker Anthony Frith's experience of directing a movie for The Asylum - the studio behind Sharknado (and probably a lot of money-laundering). Can he shoot a dinosaur movie in just six days in suburban Adelaide that looks somewhat like a real movie?

The Amyl & The Sniffers concert film "Truth or Consequence" is having limited screenings at Dendy Coorparoo and Palace James St cinemas this weekend.

The 70 min set at the El Coyote Cafe in LA features countrified version of their songs and some unreleased tracks.

Would never have guessed that WB would re-release this... much less a restored director's cut and a theatrical release.

"The Devils" was cut down to an X-rating on original release in 1971, and was either heavily censored down to an R-rating or outright banned in many countries (including Queensland... which counted as a seperate country in the Joh era). The R-rated VHS release was the only way to see it for decades, and DVD releases have been rare and butchered. Unlike Kubrick's "A Clockwork Orange", which finally became widely available in the DVD era, Ken Russell's intended version of "The Devils" remained buried in the WB vaults.

WB calling their new specialty release label "Clockwork" is a pretty clear reference, so finally getting another buried film from the same era out is appropriate. It looks like WB is trying to get some of that sweet A24 money, and this is a pretty solid shot across the bow to kick it off with.

One that I didn't get to talk about on the show tonight is "The Furious" - one of the buzziest Asian action films in years that inexplicably didn't get a cinema release in Brisbane, despite most of the dialogue being in English.

The film was produced by Hong Kong, shot in Thailand and directed by Japanese stunt choreographer Kenji Tanigaki (who did the "Rouroni Kenshin" series). Then the cast includes martial arts performers from China (star Xie Miao), Thailand and Indonesia - including Joe Taslim and Yayan Ruhian form "The Raid" movies. It's a pan-Asian assemblage of top-of-the-line action performers delivering just under 2 hours of creatively staged kickpunching mayhem.

So if the idea of an endless stream of goons get beaten up in increasingly implausible ways sparks joy, then check out "The Furious" on streaming now.

As mentioned on the show last night, Halloween horror film "Dark Harvest" is releasing today on Amazon.

Directed by UK filmmaker David Slade ("Hard Candy", "30 Days of Night", "Black Mirror: Bandersnatch"), the film also had a Brisbane contingent working on VFX.... including me (Adam)! So watch my goddamn movie! It even has 70% on Rotten Tomatoes already!!!
