The Stanway surname is well-known in the sports community of the Huon Valley, and Jacob celebrated his 200 game milestone for the Huonville Lions Football Club last Saturday playing in the Reserves’ 4-point thrilling win over Dodges Ferry at the Shark Park.

The Huonville Lions describe Jacob as one of their most loyal and passionate players on their books.

Stanway told the Huon News, “Getting the opportunity to play my 200th game on the weekend was fantastic, especially playing alongside my close friends and older brother Jamie.”

Cooee Direen was pretty happy to see himself on the back page of this weeks Huon News, but he was even more thrilled when he got to meet former AFL champion from the Collingwood Magpies, Nathan Buckley!

Bucks made the trip down to the Port last weekend to feature as a guest speaker at the Cygnet Football Club’s Past Players and Officials Day.

Legend has it, Cooee has also named his dog Bucks!

QUIET ACHIEVER RACKS UP 250

One of the Huonville Lions most reliable backman has became the newest Life Member after playing his 250th game last Saturday in the Battle of the Huon clash against Cygnet.

Adam 'Wacky' Johns told the Huon News, "I feel humbled to receive this Life Membership, and proud to join the incredible list of Life Members that have come before me, including my late grandfather, Kelvin Green."

It's that time again - once a month we put a call out for pictures of tiny new arrivals to the Huon Valley... giving you the opportunity to introduce your newest family member to the community, plus the chance to win a $50 voucher from the Geeveston Pharmacy.

1. Send us a photo of your baby or new addition to the family.
2. Include their name, date of birth/age, your town in the Huon Valley, and parents' names.
At the end of each month we will publish the New Arrivals we receive and randomly select one submission for a $50 voucher, generously donated from the Geeveston Pharmacy.

KLUGA KICKS HER WAY TO 100!

Sammy Kluga made history last Saturday, as the first Women's player to have reached the 100 game milestone for the Cygnet Football Club.

The Kluga family has a rich history with football in the Huon Valley. In 2022, Sammy captained The Port Women's premiership side, a special moment shared playing alongside her sister Hayley and the team coached by her father Jason.

Sammy told the Huon News that "Being able to play football with my mates has always been the heart of why I play and sharing this milestone with them makes it that much more meaningful."
