Looks like time and tide have began their work on the Frankston seawall, with sections of the structure already undermined. 🌊 🧱 🪨

For those that don't know, a Frankston South resident has recently constructed a sea wall, without permits, to supposedly protect their property from erosion.

The bar chairs can be seen embedded in the base of the concrete, indicating where the sand levels were at the time of the pour.

There was some decent wind driven swell along the Frankston coastline over the weekend, but it does get alot worse.

I'm not an expert but it guessing the wave surge would increase in force when driven into the cavity and compressed. This is a bit like what causes a blow hole. I'm also guessing, over time the entire wall will be undermined and standing on its foundations, the metal posts that can be seen.

I'm not sure if this will still protect the property or excelerate the erosion.
The sea is relentless, so it will be interesting to see how things pan out over the season's, if the wall it allowed to remain.

☀️ Game Day at Frankston! ☀️

The Frankston Dolphins are swimming into one of the biggest clashes of the season, taking on the Brisbane Lions at home in the VFL. 1st bounce is at 1.10pm today.

The stakes? A top-4 spot on the line.
Frankston are sitting 4th, Brisbane 5th, and the sun’s out. Perfect footy weather. 🌊🦁

It’s amazing to think that just a few years ago the Dolphins were out of the league entirely, and now we’re fighting for finals in one of the greatest comebacks you’ll ever see in sport. 💪🐬

So grab your mates, grab a spot on the hill, and get loud. Let’s turn Frankston into a fortress today.
Go Dolphins! Go Frankston! 🐬❤️🖤

Super low tide at Frankston beach this morning and the Kananook Creek is almost empty.

It's a full moon tonight. 🌕
The Moon's gravity plays a primary role in generating tides by pulling on Earth's oceans, creating a bulge of water on the side facing the Moon—this results in a high tide.

The Sun also contributes to tidal forces through its gravitational pull. When the Sun, Moon, and Earth align, such as during full and new moons, their combined gravitational effects intensify, producing especially high and low tides known as spring tides.

A walk through Kananook.

Kananook is a quiet coastal locality nestled in the northern part of Frankston. Though not officially designated as a suburb, it is widely recognised by locals and carries a strong sense of identity. Named after the winding Kananook Creek , which flows into Port Phillip Bay ,the area is a blend of natural beauty and modest urban development.

The neighborhood features a mix of older weatherboard homes, newer units, public housing pockets, and a scattering of quirky old factories that hint at its light industrial past.

Kananook Railway Station, opened on 25 August 1975, connects the area to Melbourne via the Frankston line. Nearby are the extensive Kananook railway stabling yards, Ventura bus depot, and the Frankston City Council depot, making Kananook a key part of the city's transport and service infrastructure. It is also home to many of Frankston car dealerships, service industries, mechanics and repair shops.

The area also boasts several community and recreational features including Kananook Primary School, the well-used Kananook Reserve oval, and the peaceful Kananook Creek Reserve with its popular walking and cycling trail that meanders alongside the creek.

Although Kananook shares the 3199 postcode and is technically part of Frankston, its informal boundaries - stretching from Eel Race Road in the north to Overton Road in the south, bounded by the Frankston Freeway to the east and the Kananook Creek and Port Phillip Bay to the west — give it a clear local identity. With its combination of nature, infrastructure, and community spaces, Kananook remains a low-key but fascinating corner of the Frankston municipality .
