Now in it’s 47th year, the Walyalup Print Awards is the gallery’s longest running exhibition series, and the nation’s biggest print making prize.

This year, the winning artist, Prita Tina Yeganeh, took home $20,000 for her artwork ‘My Soil Farsh فرش (The Sacred Shared Labour)’.

Over 145 hours, 17 women gathered to hand-grind 45 kilograms of red clay soil. Prita’s winning work is a rug created from this soil and printed in-situ using 30 3D-printed motifs. It’s an exquisite artwork that becomes both a vessel for memory and a placemaking tool, weaving migration, heritage, and ritual into a tactile language of connection.

Alongside Prita, Mervyn Street was awarded the First Nations Award for his piece, ‘Colt Rider’ and Jana Papantoniou the Emerging Award with her piece ‘Two Figures Interwoven’.

The WFAC Print Award is on now until September 21, don’t miss out.

Over August 22-24, the will come to life with the makings of martinis, negronis and gin and tonics when the annual Distillers Festival takes over.

Find some of the state’s best distillers all in one place at this free event, where visitors are invited to meet the makers, try the spirits, and learn more about the creative and technical processes behind the craft, all while enjoying the atmosphere of the Fremantle Markets.

Once you’ve sampled the spirits, head into The Yard and pick up your cocktail ingredients - think a lemon twist, or a slice of cucumber. Then wander through The Hall to stock up on aperitivo hour snacks, call up your friends and hey presto, you’ve got the makings of a great night in, and all your newfound distilling knowledge to boot.

It’s always bittersweet when a team member takes flight, but when the journey ahead is filled with travel and adventure, it becomes a joyful au revoir.

Ashtyn has been an integral part of the team for the past three years, and as she spreads her wings, we’ll be cheering her on from afar, living a little vicariously through her travels and celebrating this exciting new chapter alongside her.

Thank you for the beautiful flowers and card, Ashtyn – we will see you soon.
