Train commuters have been forced onto buses following a serious incident at a trouble-plagued level crossing in the northern suburbs.

Emergency services were called to the level crossing at Station Road in North Shore around 8:15pm, following reports of a crash involving a train.

Upon arrival, it was discovered that a Melbourne-bound V/Line train had struck a car.

Paramedics attended the scene, although it remains unclear if anyone was transported to hospital.

In a statement, V/Line confirmed that train services were suspended between Waurn Ponds and Lara, with passengers transferred to coach services.

“Coaches are replacing trains between Lara and Waurn Ponds due to an incident requiring emergency services at North Shore,” a warning on their website read.

The incident comes just months after a fatality at the same location and follows repeated calls for level crossing removal works to be carried out.

Public Transport Users Association Geelong Branch Convenor Jarred Crowe told Geelong 24/7 News Now exclusively in a statement, “It is extremely concerning to once again see the Geelong Line suspended due to another accident at this danger-prone level crossing.”

“The PTUA reaffirms the urgent need to remove this crossing, which has experienced more than its fair share of incidents.”

Passengers onboard the affected train were left waiting for more than an hour while authorities decided whether to disembark them at the scene or continue to a nearby station.

Around 9:40pm, it was confirmed the train would return to North Shore station, where passengers would be transferred to road coaches.

The level crossing was reopened as of 10:00pm, with traffic flowing through the scene again.

AMBULANCE VICTORIA ISSUES PUBLIC WARNING AS NON URGENT CALLS BUCKLE THE SYSTEM

By: Editorial Team, Lincoln Holmes
Date: 12/7/2025

Ambulance Victoria is calling on the public to stop using emergency ambulances for non-urgent issues, as the system begins to buckle under a sharp rise in life-threatening calls.

Since April, paramedics have responded to an average of 100 extra Code 1 cases every day, an increase driven largely by seasonal respiratory illnesses.

Authorities have stressed that this weekend could be particularly challenging for the system.

Ambulance Victoria CEO Jordan Emery said the growing demand is placing significant strain on the service’s ability to respond to genuine emergencies.

“We’ve seen a significant increase in Code 1 cases, on average 100 more each day compared to just a few months ago,” he said.

“This increase in life-threatening cases means we need to respond lights and sirens to administer life-saving medical care – and we can’t do that if ambulances are being called to less-urgent or avoidable situations.”

Emery urged the public to make smarter healthcare choices, saying, “The message is simple: save paramedics for emergencies.”

Ambulance Victoria Acting Director of Regional and Clinical Operations, Jessica McGowan, echoed the call for action and encouraged the public to take basic steps to reduce the burden on paramedics.

“Vaccination remains one of the best ways to protect against seasonal illness,” she said.

“If you’re feeling unwell or you have flu-like symptoms, stay home to help stop the spread and protect those most at risk.”

McGowan also emphasised that paramedics are not a substitute for general medical care.

“It is vital that if you are feeling unwell that you seek medical advice as soon as possible, before your illness escalates,” she said.

“That advice could be from a local GP or pharmacist, or the online Victorian Virtual Emergency Department is also a great option and it’s free.”

Authorities are urging Victorians to avoid unnecessary ambulance calls, warning that misuse of emergency services could delay critical care for someone in a life-threatening condition.

Healthcare alternatives include the Victorian Virtual Emergency Department, which offers 24/7 access to emergency doctors and nurses via vved.org.au; GP-led Urgent Care Clinics listed on the Better Health Channel; the 24-hour NURSE-ON-CALL service at 1300 606 024; and local GPs and pharmacists.

People experiencing a genuine, life-threatening emergency should still call Triple Zero (000) immediately.

SIX TEENS ARRESTED AFTER NIGHT OF TROUBLE INVOLVING MACHETES, A STABBING AND STOLEN CAR

By: Melton News Now
Date: 12/7/2025

Six teens have been charged following a violent string of overnight incidents across Melbourne’s western suburbs.

Police say the trouble began around 10:30pm, when a rideshare driver picked up three males from Kings Park Reserve, along Gillespie Road, before dropping them off near Neil Street in Sunshine.

After exiting the vehicle, the group is alleged to have attempted to steal the mans car.

The 28-year-old driver from Keilor East was allegedly stabbed during the incident, but managed to escape and drive himself to a nearby police station.

Paramedics attended the station and transported him to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Around 20 minutes later, police responded to a second incident along Kinnane Crescent, also in Sunshine, where an aggravated carjacking was reported.

According to investigators, three males armed with machetes approached another rideshare vehicle, demanding the driver hand over the silver Toyota Camry, before they assaulted him and fled the scene in the car.

That driver, a 28-year-old from Craigieburn, was not physically injured.

After a short while, the vehicle was spotted at a fast-food outlet on St Albans Road in St Albans.

As officers approached, the driver allegedly tried to flee, crashing the car into an unmarked police vehicle and multiple bollards.

Local police units, with the assistance of the K9 unit arrested six teens at the scene.

During the arrest one of the males was bitten by a dog after resisting arrest, he was transported to hospital with non-life-threatning injuries.

All six were taken into custody and questioned by Brimbank Crime Investigation Unit detectives.

A 16-year-old boy from the Brimbank area was charged with multiple offences, including two counts of aggravated reckless exposure of a police officer to risk by driving, damage to an emergency services vehicle, criminal damage, theft of a motor vehicle, unlicensed driving, and being disguised with unlawful intent.

He will appear in a children’s court at a later date.

A 15-year-old from the Melton area was charged with theft of a motor vehicle and possession of a prohibited weapon.

Three others, a 16-year-old from Brimbank, a 15-year-old from Footscray, and another 15-year-old from Brimbank, were charged with theft of a motor vehicle.

All were bailed to appear at a children’s court.

Another 16-year-old from Brimbank was cautioned in relation to the same charge.

Investigations into the attempted carjacking, stabbing, and aggravated carjacking are ongoing.

Police are urging anyone with information or footage to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
