Today I took a corporate group around Geelong on this beautiful Friday afternoon. How wonderful that the staff of Tourism Greater Geelong and The Bellarine have enriched their minds in the history of Geelong.
After a bit of research I was able to include some tidbits about the history of tourism in Geelong on the tour. How’s this quote from the Geelong Advertiser from back in 1875.
Geelong Advertiser “Town Talk”
Friday October 22 1875
“No person can say he has properly “done” London if he has not visited the Tower, the Houses of Parliament, the National Gallery, and other such places, any more than a visitor to Paris could say he has seen all the was worth seeing if he had neglected the Lourve, the Pantheon, les Gobelins or even Pere Lachaise. We have no places in Geelong possessed of such historical reminiscences, but have our woollen factories, and to miss visiting these would be an acknowledged oversight on the part of any tourist.”
The staff of the Geelong & The Bellarine have certainly ‘done’ Geelong after hearing the of stories of yesteryear!
