An entertaining and humorous account of growing up in a country town, written by these well-known brothers whose family ran the local blacksmith/garage from the 1860s – ‘From Horseshoes to Horsepower’ was the Gardiners’ slogan. Included in the book are many pictures from the brothers’ time and earlier, a section on the Gisborne Cemetery, where Eddie served on the Trust for many years, and a selection of poems composed by Eddie – funny, moving and dramatic. Eddie and Peter Gardiner have both been awarded OAMs for their service to the community.

We were inundated for this APRIL edition with news from our contributing schools, sports, community groups and clubs. In a world full of chaos and often upsetting news, it is heart-warming to see the good in our local area.

Indeed, war and peace is in the forefront of our minds with current world events and Anzac Day coming up later this month. This is reflected in the Gazette: read about the anniversary of our own Lone Pine planting (page 3), details of the Dawn Service at Mount Macedon (page 3), Peter Gardiner’s memories of WWII in Tales of Old Gisborne (page 9), as well as a reflection on the 110th anniversary of the Gallipoli Landing from our own Gisborne RSL president (page 11).

Our local sports also celebrated making, and in some cases, winning grand finals as the summer season draws to a close. We love seeing the passion of our locals young and old across the community as they strive for excellence in their chosen sport. Check out the sport on pages 30-35.
