Reposted from • I’m so excited to have received my copy of The Phoenix Five - a beautiful story that I illustrated for the lovely Sandi and Chris Phoenix and Monica Millgate from .

This story, published by , was the first time I worked in watercolour for a book illustration contract (there is something special about using non-digital mediums in an AI-world that I am increasingly drawn to), and I feel the outcome is something I can be so incredibly proud of. This book is the most ‘me’ I have ever been on printed pages.

The treatment the illustration was given on the beautiful hard cover is just astounding, with embossing and copper foils to add a tactile quality. Working with authors who want the best for this book - who want to ensure the little hands that hold it really treasure it - it’s just such a blessing.

Thank you to Sandi, Chris, and Monica - and the whole team - for including me in this amazing project. I have since learnt so much about and about needs based education. If you don’t know about this, I encourage you to head to their page to learn more.

An upcoming picture-book author has specifically requested to team up with a neurodivergent illustrator. If you identify as autistic, ADHD, dyslexic, or otherwise neurodivergent—and you’re passionate about storytelling through art—we’d love to connect!

THE PROJECT
▫️ 32-page children’s picture book (colour)
▫️ Good at drawing animals, fun and colourful style—think expressive characters and plenty of personality
▫️ Paid, contracted commission (industry rates)
▫️ Timeline: sketch phase starts mid-July; final art due December 2025

HOW TO APPLY
1. Send a short intro (tell us a little about you & how your neurodivergence influences your work).
2. Include a link to your portfolio or 3–5 recent pieces (PDF or website).
3. Email [email protected] with the subject line “Neurodivergent Illustrator — [Your Name]” by 17 June 2025 (AEST).
