Double demerits in place for safer roads this Anzac Day long weekend

Motorists are reminded to slow down and follow the road rules as double demerits are back in place tor all speeding, seatbelt, illegal mobile phone use, and motorcycle helmet offences from Thursday 24 to Sunday 27 April for the Anzac Day long weekend.
Roads across the state are expected to be busy as people attend Anzac Day events, travel out of town to make the most of the long weekend, and make their way home ahead of school resuming.

Transport for NSW Transport for NSW Executive Director Transport Safety, Chadi Chalhoub said it's important that we all do our part to keep our roads safe for everyone travelling and ensure that everyone returns home safely.

“Road safety is a shared responsibility, and I urge all motorists to make safe decisions this long weekend. One bad decision on the road can cost you more than double demerits – it could cost a life.

“Sadly, six people died on our roads during the double demerit period for the Anzac Day long weekend last year,” Mr Chalhoub said.

“We don’t want more families to lose their loved ones so be vigilant and always allow extra time to travel even for short trips.

“If you’re travelling on regional roads, be sure to take regular breaks and watch out for animals on the road,” Mr Chalhoub said.

During this time, double demerits will apply to all speeding, seatbelt, illegal mobile phone use, and motorcycle helmet offences.

Motorists are also encouraged to plan ahead by checking the Live Traffic NSW App for the latest updates before you travel or use our journey planning tool on our website https://www.myjourneynsw.info/

REDISCOVER THE JOY OF CHRISTMAS – NEWLIFE ANGLICAN ORAN PARK

Do you remember when Christmas used to be fun? Maybe it involved sneaking down the hallway and under the tree to shake a few presents before the adults got up. Maybe it was the pleasure of having the house full of friends and family. Or maybe the fun of Christmas was all in the glorious food that came in great mounds. Surely the crowning happiness for any kid was frantically ripping away the paper to find the latest toy or game now safely in your hands at last.

When does Christmas lose its fun? Maybe it’s a long drive to that relative’s place on a blazing hot day. Perhaps it’s because you now have to cook the food that you used to only have to consume. Or, heaven forbid, the challenge of dealing with the crowds and shopping for that present that is now out of stock everywhere. Perhaps it’s just when you become an adult.

Christians believe that as good as many of those childhood memories are, there is joy to be had at Christmas for adults too. That joy comes from knowing that at its heart Christmas is more than turkeys and wrapping paper - it is in fact a celebration of God making the first move towards us.

The Bible tells us that the baby born in Bethlehem is much more than meets the eye. His names make this clear. Firstly, ‘Jesus’ means “God saves.” Secondly, ‘Emmanuel’ means, “God with us.” The one born in a shed and laid in manger is the living God come to rescue us from our sins and become our companion in life. We’d be delighted to share a joy that lasts beyond the bon-bons - to knowing our sins can be forgiven and our lives can be filled with the love of God for eternity to come.

To hear more join us for Carols on the lawn out the front of our church on Central Avenue from 5pm on Sunday Dec 15th. Then on Christmas Eve (24th) in our family service at 5pm, or our evening service at 11pm, or on Christmas Day (25th) at 9am. Rediscover real joy this Christmas - kids *and adults* are warmly invited.
