Our Sunday Morning Routine at Farmers’ Market
Every Sunday morning, we head to Farmers’ Market in our suburb - this become our little weekly ritual. The market only happens once a week, every Sunday from 6 am to 12 nn.
We choose to buy our fruits and veggies here, for our whole week supply, because it’s cheaper than in the supermarket, and you’ll often find vegetables that you won’t even see in the supermarket. For someone like me, that’s such a treat—especially because you can even find the vegetables we grew up eating in the Philippines, plus other Asian greens, so you never have to miss your favorite dishes!
The market itself is set next to the railway station. As you walk around, you’re greeted by rows of vibrant produce, the smell of freshly baked bread, and the cheerful buzz of locals chatting with stall owners.
A little tip: Some stalls start offering discounts on fruits and veggies from around 10 am onwards—but by that time, there’s a chance your favorite produce might already be sold out. So coming early is still the best way to make sure you get everything you want. In the end, it really depends on you: do you prefer to come early to have first pick of everything, or take the risk and come later hoping to score a discount?
And if you have kids, they’ll have a blast too! Sometimes you’ll see farm animals, and some fun activities like bouncing castles or even little motorcycle rides to keep them entertained.
It actually reminds me a lot of our farmers’ markets back in the Philippines. We call it "Tabo" in our dialect -it refers to a weekly or periodic market day, usually held in rural towns or barangays where farmers and vendors gather to sell their produce, livestock, and other goods - you’re buying directly from the growers, chatting with them, and enjoying that sense of community. The vibe here is more relaxed, but the heart of it—the fresh produce and local support—feels exactly the same.
We always head home with bags full of goodies, big smiles, and that lovely feeling of supporting local farmers and makers.
