♟️ Why is chess so incredibly complex?
Chess starts with just 32 pieces on a 64-square board, but the number of possible positions and move sequences grows incredibly quickly.
After both players have made 10 moves, there are estimated to be around 170 octillion possible opening sequences roughly 170 followed by 27 zeros.
The reason is simple: every move creates new choices for the opponent, and every response creates even more choices. Those possibilities keep branching out with every move.
That means two people can start with the exact same board and, after only a few moves, end up in completely different positions.
It’s one of the reasons chess has remained fascinating for centuries the number of possibilities is simply enormous.
