My good mate Tony and I are both very busy individuals. We both work long hours at our respective jobs, so when the opportunity arose to go on another camping trip, we jumped at it. We only had 2–3 days available, and after tossing around a few options, we decided to head back to one of our favourite haunts β€” Jumpinpin. πŸ™‚

Due to my work commitments, we were forced to make it just an overnighter. Still, we made the most of it, leaving Saturday morning and returning Sunday afternoon.

Saturday morning saw us pack the new boat to the brim with camping gear before launching from Cabbage Tree ramp. We got plenty of strange looks from other boaties. To be fair, our boat looked more like a refugee vessel than a fishing boat! 🀣
After setting up camp, we spent about an hour just relaxing. The weather was beautiful β€” not too hot and not too cold. We chose a well-known spot off Short Island that offered plenty of shelter. In fact, our campsite had some of the tallest trees on the island.

With rain forecast for Sunday, we took extra care setting up tarps over our swags. In doing so, Tony's tent ended up tucked away in the bush under four trees while mine scored the waterfront view. 🀣🀣
The campfire was soon lit, and Tony had already knocked back four beers before we even wet a line!

Our first afternoon fishing session was a little disappointing, but we still managed four legal bream and two legal flathead. That turned out to be a blessing because, in my rush to pack, I'd accidentally left most of our food supply sitting in the fridge at home. 🀣🀣🫣 After some discussion, we decided on cornflour-crumbed deep-fried fish fillets for dinner. It was my first attempt at cooking them that way, but honestly, I was pretty proud of the result. With full bellies and feeling a bit tired (and tipsy), we turned in early. πŸ™‚

Sunday morning brought a bit of drama. In our tired and beer-fuelled state the night before, we'd left the boat high and dry on the beach. High tide was still a few hours away. Rather than fight it, we decided to relax and enjoy the morning. Breakfast consisted of bacon and eggs on the grill, accompanied by onion rings on sandwiches with either mayo or tomato sauce. Throughout the morning we made several unsuccessful attempts to push the boat back into the water. It wasn't until nearly 11am that we finally managed to get her afloat.

The fishing started quietly. Tony landed the first undersized flathead before adding a few bream to the tally. I followed up with another three flathead and around five bream of my own. There were plenty of baitfish around and lots of bird activity, but unfortunately no tailor showed up.

Around 3pm we packed up camp and headed home. We left the campsite exactly as we found it β€” clean and undisturbed. It had been an awesome trip and the site was more than ideal. A big thanks to those who camped there before us and took the time to keep it tidy. We were happy to return the favour and hopefully we'll be back there again in the near future. πŸ™‚πŸ€ž

Fun little trip out today with my good mate Minh. We initially headed for Moreton Bay to chase squid. Weather predictions had been pretty inaccurate so we figured it might be the same scenario. However we were proved wrong. On launching and half way across towards Peel; the winds picked up. We made the sad call to turn around 🫣 Better safe than sorry.

We fished in the new boat today so weren't sure how it'll handle. Waves went up to around 1.5m with 15-20knot winds! The boat however handled it like a charm! We were pleasantly surprised! Back at the ramp we retrieved and shot back down to Cabbage tree point for the Pin. Jumpinpin generally can be fished in any weather. We spent almost half the day driving around casting at the run offs, sand flats, bust ups and ledges but no luck. All hopes almost lost as 3pm came around..

I hadn't given up though. Minh was done and dusted lounging around yawning. On the turn of tide and almost sunset I hooked up to the first decent fish of the session. At this stage we had only managed 4 tiny flatties. This fish was different, bigger, stronger with thumping heads shakes. I initially thought it was another flatty. To my delight it was a soapie (Juvenile Jew Fish). A quick photo and returned to the water. Few minutes later I had another hook up. It was a beautiful looking trevaly. The action kept getting better and better as we inched towards the sunset.

The boat was still being setup so no nav lights were working. We couldn't stay back late as a result but finished up around 5:45pm with a handful of good sized fish. Minh got absolutely smoked on a fish that busted through 12lb leader. All in all another awesome adventure with a good mate despite the unfavourable conditions πŸ˜‡

I love fishing with these two good mates of mine Tony & Bristo. Today was no exception. They came up with some of the most unscripted dialogues you'd ever hear on a fishing trip; especially from Tony. This made the trip way more enjoyable and memorable for all involved. Other boaties would have witnessed a few idiots rolling on the deck laughing their heads off! Unfortunately for me editing these vids often proved a little more challenging 🀣🫣

We started off later than usual leaving the ramp roughly 11am. The goal was to fish West Peel artificial reef on the midday lowtide followed by squids on the weedbeds then finish up in the evening chasing snapper. I had previously done well here hence all week I had been hyping them up 🀣 We however only managed one legal squire amongst a whole heap of other tiny fish. There were heaps of boats out however none caught anything of size. The wind was a chilled 10knots until the arvo where it often went up past 15knots.

Around 2pm we shot off for some squid action. Within 5 mins of arriving the very first two squids graced our deck. They were in a abundance. Some were very aggressive feeders while others were touchie touchie refusing to strike πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ. We managed 19 squids total before leaving them feeding for some snaps.

I managed some awesome snapper sessions on my previous trip at Myora lights so was keen to give it another shot. I had promised my two friends some rod bending actions; I didn't disappoint! My mate Bristo hooked onto a huge specimen on a vibe. Huge huge headshakes. We all thought that fish was a gonner but turns out we were wrong. On a large final run it busted through 20lb leader and vanished with the $20 vibe leaving Bristo absolutely devastated🀣.

Weather was pretty average so was a bit difficult to get the drift right for these tactics. We were fortunate for the awesome session on squids though. Hopefully we'd get better at it and have more big snappers to show in the near future πŸ™‚

Managed a trip out today to measured mile with my mate. Weather wasn't ideal but we had planned a week in ahead so punched out to the first measured pylon. Spent over an hour there with only one hit.

Another boat arrived and joined us for a bit but soon drove out the next pylon. We followed which turned out to be a good call. Despite the horrendous conditions we managed to land 4 and dropped around another 5. There were a few black tip sharks around too which proved a nuisance. After snipping off a few and donating them our ganged hooks we ran out! We only managed another 2 on slugs before giving up.

Back in the Brissie river we got railed by a few monsters but only landed an undersized Jew which was released. All in all a an awesome day despite the conditions. Water was a warm 27deg. So being sprayed all day with saltwater was kinda Ok πŸ«£πŸ˜…
