Hey Mamas. It's so easy to get stuck in a rut. Trapped in a routine that doesn't work for you, it actually drains you.

And one of the routines or habits many Mums get stuck in is putting yourself last.

YUCK!

Luckily there is a simple solution 🙏🩷

Start practising the pause: stop and take 5 minutes for yourself, every day.

Sounds too simple? Too small?

But it works! Scientific evidence shows us that even pausing to take deep, slow breaths for a few minutes can help improve our wellbeing.

So pause and take 5 for yourself today. Drink that coffee while it's still hot. Or stop and breath for a few moments.

If I started my motherhood journey over again, THIS is exactly what I’d do...

When I started my motherhood journey I was fresh from being a gung ho career woman. I knew my stuff and I was climbing the career ladder. I had high expectations and I pushed myself to achieve them 💪

If I started my motherhood journey all over again, I would leave those expectations at work.

You know what else I would leave behind with those expectations? Googling all the “expert” parenting advice. F*ck that. It just leads to self judgement, fear of not being good enough and the impossible task of trying to follow all the so called “experts” giving conflicting advice 🤯

I would be KINDER to myself and I would keep doing some of my old activities and hobbies. Not all of them, because babies and young children require lots of time, but at least some of them so I could keep in touch with who I was outside of being Mum.

I WOULD SAY YES WHEN SOMEONE OFFERS TO HELP

Sorry for yelling, but that stubborn independant streak that insists I can do it all myself (and do it right) would be getting kicked out the door.

Starting your motherhood journey is a HUGE, f*cking HUGE, change in your life. Cut yourself some slack!! 🙏🩷

Sick and tired of being taken for granted?

Ask yourself: am I treating myself with respect and compassion? Or am I letting people walk all over me?!?

Mama, if you're treating YOURSELF like sh*t, why would those around you be any different? If you're constantly putting yourself last and running yourself ragged for everyone else, people will just assume that's OK 🤷‍♀️

It's up to you to set some personal boundaries and start being kinder to yourself. Set the example of how you want to be treated by doing it yourself 🩷🙏

Sound harsh? I'd love to hear your thoughts below! 👇

For real, Mums are expected to be the heart of the family, stay on top of the life admin, hold down a job, provide healthy meals, keep the house liveable, remember all the important dates (including your MILs birthday), keep the Christmas magic alive, keep themselves looking "good" and, and, and....

F*cks sake. Is it any wonder Mums are burning out faster than a match at the park when you're trying to light the birthday candles?!?

It's time to say NO.

One person simply cannot be across and on top of all this stuff without tipping into utter overwhelm and exhaustion.

Start saying YES to yourself and your needs.

Because you can't be there for your kids if you're completely frazzled and overwhelmed.

Becoming a Mum has layers. So many layers. You’ve got your own expectations. Family roles and influence. The way society portrays “good Mums”. Friends and their opinions of parenting and having kids.

Not to mention becoming a Mum is a bloody fkn HUGE change in your life.

If you’ve been a high achiever in other areas of your life, suddenly you are trying to meet ALL the expectations being thrown at you.

And in this modern world you’re also probably Googling like mad to find the “perfect” way to parent.

Be a gentle parent. Kids should behave in public. A little smack never hurt me... Baby led weaning, breast feeding, puree foods. Screens damage developing brains. Nap when the baby naps. Keep the house clean and tidy. Go back to work. Young children need the security of Mum and Dad, not daycare.

Talk about information overload.

And on top of all that, Mums are meant to be selfless and giving, right? Sheesh!

Is it any wonder that you think you’re “too busy” to pause and take care of yourself? With this all consuming beast of motherhood and under the weight of all these expectations, the first things you ditched were more than likely the stuff you did for fun. The things you enjoyed just because.

Well it’s time to reclaim YOU.

It’s time you realised you are more than a Mum. You are a whole person with real needs and wants.

And you cannot be a great Mum if you’re rundown and exhausted.

Repeat after me: the greatest gift I can give to my kids is a happy and healthy Mum.

Not a worn-out husk of a woman who constantly snaps at her family because she is absolutely fried from constantly giving and putting herself last.

Here at Flourish Mama Co I help busy Mums to reconnect with themselves and prioritise their needs too, so they can show up as a connected and heartfelt Mama for their family. Hit the follow button now for more real Mum talk and support xx

Let's be real Mums. I bet you turn yourself inside out to make sure your kids' needs are met.

Healthy meals. Play dates. After school activities. Quality time. Helping them learn their ABCs. Family outings. Finding their favourite shoes/toys/snacks...

But when was the last time you paused and asked yourself: what do I need in this moment?

It wasn't when you put off going to the loo for the fifth time because one of your kids needed you.

It wasn't when you messaged the group WhatsApp with "Sry!! Rly can't come tonight. I have to read the same 6 Bluey books to Emmaline for the 47th time today 🤯🫠"

It wasn't when you put off going to the doctors about that funny looking mole because you had to take Owen to soccer training.

It wasn't when you microwaved your coffee for the third time today because you just had to do one more chore before drinking it.

The greatest need of your kids: to have a healthy and happy Mum.

Because when your health falls over or you are so depleted and run down that you become an angry, yelling Mum, who benefits then?

No one.

At Flourish Mama Co I support you to reconnect with yourself and prioritise your needs too 🙏
