Have you tried Pork Knuckle?

One of the things we love most is sharing the meals we grew up with. This time, Fibin found pork knuckles at Costco and surprised us by cooking an Aussies style roast dinner with a little help from Mum, Dad and plenty of teamwork in the kitchen.

After spending the last few years introducing me to Kerala’s incredible food, it was nice to return the favour.

Good food has a way of bringing everyone around the table, no matter where you’re from. Have you ever tried roast pork with crispy crackling? Or what’s the meal that reminds you most of home? 👇

Who knew a part of Australia could remind us so much of Kerala? 🌴🇦🇺

Before moving to Kerala, I never paid much attention to tropical fruit. Now it’s one of the first things I notice wherever we travel.

Standing beneath a chakka tree in Cairns felt strangely familiar.

Add in mangoes, pineapples, lychees, mangosteen, coconuts and bananas, and it’s easy to see why Tropical North Queensland is often called Australia’s tropical paradise.

Of course, the cultures are completely different, but both places share something really special: an incredible connection to the land and the abundance it provides.

Happy Birthday to my favourite person ❤️

What makes this birthday especially special is seeing Jess celebrate surrounded by her family again. I know how much that means to her.

Flirted a little too hard… and somehow ended up building a life in Keralam. 😅🤍

Looking back, it’s incredible how much can change in just a few years. What started with one message turned into a whole new home, a wonderful extended family and countless adventures.

Safe to say… I’d make the same decision all over again.

A little family outing to one of the places that has become part of our Kerala story 🤍

Pattumala Church is one of the most beautiful places to visit near Kuttikkanam, surrounded by tea plantations, mountain views and some truly stunning architecture, but for us it’s also much more personal than that.

It was one of the very first places Fibin’s parents brought me during my first trip to Kerala in 2022, long before we moved here and long before Monsoon Mist became our home.

So coming back with Fibin’s father now, after everything that’s happened in the last few years, felt really special.

Yesterday’s mission? A giant chakka growing on the edge of the forest between the tea plantations.
I said, “I don’t think you can reach it.”
Fibin: Challenge accepted.
A few sticks, some improvised engineering, barefoot tree climbing and a lot of determination later… the chakka was his.
One of my favourite things about life in Kerala is how much of it happens outdoors like this, fruit growing everywhere, little adventures hidden in ordinary walks, and a husband who will absolutely not leave a jackfruit behind 😂

A monsoon morning in Kuttikkanam ☁️🌿
One of the things we love most about this time of year is how quickly a very ordinary day can turn into a little adventure.
Breakfast with a view, a short walk through the tea plantations to one of our favourite waterfalls… and then somehow ending up back home with a giant chakka on Fibin’s shoulder 😅. This is one of the reasons we love living in the hills during monsoon. Everything is green, misty, dramatic and never very far from a good walk (or a jackfruit apparently).

One of the best parts of sharing our lives online has been meeting people we never would have crossed paths with otherwise 🤍
Recently we had the pleasure of hosting Marianne and Crifto Desi Dutch Couple 🇮🇳🇳🇱 , another intercultural couple living in Kerala.
Over a delicious dum mutton biriyani we shared stories about life here, our different backgrounds, and the experiences that come with building a life between cultures.
It’s funny how quickly strangers can become friends when you put good food in front of them 😅
Thank you both for making the trip up to the misty hills of Kuttikkanam. We loved having you here and can’t wait to catch up again soon.
