SWELL Sculpture Festival is back at Currumbin from 11–20 September, and it’s one of our favourite family-friendly things to do this time of year!

There are more than 80 large-scale contemporary sculptures set among the natural landscape from Currumbin Beach to Flat Rock at Tugun, along with pop-up exhibitions around the Gold Coast.

Wander along the coastline, check out the sculptures and see what the kids think of all the different artworks along the way. We like to go early, but sunrise through to sunset is a beautiful time to visit.

A little tip for this year: I’d park around Len Wort Park near the SWELL Kids Festival and walk from there. You might get lucky with a street park, or you can park at Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary for $10. Then walk along Currumbin Beach and back, finishing at the Kids Festival and right near your car.

This section at Flat Rock is probably my favourite section of SWELL, with sculptures along the beach and plenty happening around the Kids Festival.

One thing to note this year is that, because of the ongoing beach erosion, there aren't sculptures directly on the beach at Currumbin Beach. They’re all along the walkway instead, with sculptures on the sand at Currumbin Alley and Flat Rock.

Are you heading to SWELL?

Get ready for glitter, giggles and festival fun because City of Gold Coast Kidchella 2026 is this weekend!! 🌈🎉

On Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 September, Surfers Paradise transforms into a colourful playground packed with entertainment, creativity and activities for kids of all ages.

Little festival-goers can dance to live DJ beats, spin high above the beach on the Ferris wheel, bust a move at the silent disco, show off their skills with street-style hoops, unleash their creativity in the Art Studio, hit the skate zone and add a little sparkle at the Glam Bar. Best of all, it's completely free to attend!

Want an easy way to take the littles to see the new PAW Patrol: The Dino Movie? Reading Cinemas Harbour Town has a Baby's Day Out session screening it tomorrow, Friday 11 September at 10.30am. Perfect for parents with babies and toddlers, so you don't have to worry about keeping them perfectly quiet or sitting in the dark trying to find the dummy that's just been thrown on the floor! The lights stay dimmed, and a bit of wriggling, feeding or fussing is completely fine.

The best bit - children under 5 are free, with up to two little ones admitted per paying adult! So if you've got a PAW Patrol fan who isn't quite ready for a regular cinema session, this could be the easiest way to give it a go!

☕️ FINALLY… some news about the Greenheart café! 💚
If you’ve visited Greenheart Robina Parklands, you’ll probably have noticed the café sitting empty, and you’re certainly not the only one wondering when it would finally open.

Well, we now have an answer!

Councillor Dan Doran has announced that following a public tender process, a lease has been signed and works will begin soon, with the café expected to open later this year.

It’ll be a very welcome addition to Greenheart, giving families somewhere to grab a coffee and settle in for a little longer after exploring the parklands.

I’ve previously shared more about the Greenheart Robina Parklands here: https://www.mrslardeedah.com/greenheart-robina-parklands-robina/

Now… who else is looking forward to finally being able to grab that coffee? ☕️

18 holes of putt putt, in the GC Hinterland! We loved discovering the new 18-hole course at Boomerang Hills in Mudgeeraba. It winds through the gorgeous hinterland grounds, and unlike the novelty-style putt putt courses, this one actually feels like a little round of golf — just with much smaller clubs and holes!

It’s a great one for the whole family, with enough of a challenge to get the adults competitive too. And yes, there’s a hole-in-one bell… so naturally, that became the goal.

Make a morning of it with breakfast or lunch at the onsite restaurant, and enjoy a bit of fresh air, beautiful scenery and friendly competition along the way.

Home of the Arts Kids Take Over is back these September school holidays, and there is SO much free fun! From 14–26 September, HOTA is being taken over by a wonderfully strange world of imagination, adventure and play, with immersive installations, performances, workshops and loads of things for kids to discover.

And if you're looking for school holiday activities that won't cost a fortune, start with these:
🐸 Night Walkers — giant glowing frog installations around the HOTA lake. Free drop-in, daily 14–26 September from 9am–10pm.
🌈 Hues of Happy Super Market — Step inside the most imaginative supermarket you've ever seen, and your little ones are running the show. This vibrant, colour-drenched installation invites children aged 0–11 to explore, create, and play their way through a world built just for them.
🐸 Sticky Frogs — a free circus experience on 22 September.
🫧 The Bubble Canteen — bubbles, bubbles and more bubbles on 26 September.
🌱dirtgirlworld — join dirtgirl, scrapboy and Costa the Garden Gnome on 26 September.

And then there's the FREE Lake Party on Sunday 20 September, which looks like an absolute cracker of a morning. From 9am–12pm, you can watch The Bubble Canteen, try paddle boarding, check out the skate ramps and Karmably Goat Zone, have a go at Taiko drumming, join a Hip Hop Jam, discover Indigenous stories and culture with Wullabora, and make your own frog-inspired artwork. 🐸🫧🛹

There are also plenty of bookable activities and shows across the festival, including A Bee Story, The Box Show, Hot Potato Band, Glow and Tell, Compendium of Adventure, Finnegan the Fart Detective, Jurassic Lego Battle and Erth's Dinosaurs. Some are already proving popular, so check availability if you want to book.

NEW PLAYGROUND! The brand-new playground at Paradise Point Parklands opened yesterday, and it is spectacular!

There’s a huge main play tower with plenty of climbing and slides, plus a smaller tower for kids who are ready for a little less of a challenge. Then there’s heaps more to explore around the park — an in-ground trampoline, balancing obstacles winding through the gardens, swings, spinners and lots of little discovery elements hidden amongst the rocks.

There’s a lovely toddler area too, with a little fish & chip shop, tunnel and slide tucked beneath the trees.

And one thing I really love is that the smaller original playground has been kept nearby. So if your child finds the crowds and excitement of a brand-new playground a bit much, there’s still a quieter option just a short walk away.

It’s such a beautiful setting for a playground, with loads of shade and greenery, and I think this is going to become a new favourite for Gold Coast families.

So if you’ve been waiting for it to open… consider this your sign to add Paradise Point to your weekend plans!
