TENT CITIES: There’s been a lot of feedback since last Sunday’s post here at Picnic Point at The Entrance.

I’ve come back to check in on the situation — and while there are plenty of opinions flying around, what is a workable solution?

This is what it looks like right now across parts of the Central Coast — tents, makeshift shelters, and people just trying to get by.

We’ve seen a 60% increase in homelessness this year, on top of last year’s already alarming figures.

And it’s not just in one spot — it’s from Gosford, Wyong, The Entrance, Bateau Bay, San Remo, Summerland Point, and more.

Support services are stretched to the limit.

So the big question remains: how do we get ahead of this before it gets worse?

We’re still waiting to hear from Council and the State Minister for Homelessness — but for now, I’ll keep covering this.

Stay with us, and check out Coast Community News online and in print as part of a ‘Special News Series’ as we continue to give a voice to the people living it — and the wider community.

This is a delicate situation — and respect goes a long way — but at the same time, something needs to be done.

And honestly — I’d rather be sharing your stories than just putting my own face to camera.

If this is something you’re living through, or you’ve got something to say — reach out.

I want to hear from locals. This is a community fight — and I can’t do it alone.

📍 Central Coast Mayor & CEO Front Media Over Coastal Crisis

Central Coast Mayor Lawrie McKinna and CEO David Farmer faced the media today to address growing concerns over coastal erosion and emergency response efforts.

In a tightly controlled press appearance, only one question was permitted to be directed to the Mayor, with the CEO fielding the remainder from multiple media outlets.

🔹 On Monday, LEOCON permitted emergency works at around half a dozen properties in Wamberal — but those works are still yet to be completed.

🔹 This is separate from the temporary protection works being jointly progressed by Council and the State Government over the past two months.

🔹 Over at The Entrance North, the scope of works is still sitting with the NSW Reconstruction Authority awaiting approval.

🔹 Meanwhile, Wamberal residents only received their scope on Monday night, after weeks of delays and frustration.

The CEO also discussed the need to find a “long-term” solution to the ongoing crisis — prompting sharp media retorts, with one outlet pointing out, “We heard this five years ago.”

There is also hope that the long-overdue Coastal Management Plan, which was originally due in 2021, may finally be endorsed by the Minister by Christmas.

The plan is designed to manage the Central Coast’s entire coastal region, not just erosion hotspots.
