CCFF Film reading recs 📚

1) Scorsese on Scorsese - David Thompson
A collection of enlightening interviews where Martin Scorsese discusses his films and gives insight into his creative process.
2) The Art of Dramatic Writing - Lajos Egri
Lajos Egri's work has inspired everyone from the writers at Pixar to George Miller. The classic text helps writers get to the core of what drama is and how to nurture it in their work.
3) Figures Traced in Light - David Bordwell
Bordwell's exploration of staging helps filmmakers to understand how the movements of actors and their position within the frame help to carry and deepen the story. Bordwell explores the works of Howard Hawke, Michelangelo Antonioni, Yasujiro Ozu, Takeshi Kitano and others.
4) Hitchcock - Truffaut
Based on a week of recordings between two legendary directors, Francois Truffaut dives into the mind of Alfred Hitchcock and looks for what makes him tick.
5) On Filmmaking - Alexander Mackendrick
Gathered and edited in this collection, the notes of director turned teacher Alexander 'Sandy' Mackendrick's notes on his craft are all you need for a diy, at home film school.
