**LOCAL NEWS | Friday 19 December 2025**

Clarence Valley Council’s final meeting of the year ended in surprise yesterday, running for more than four hours before moving into confidential session to consider a code of conduct complaint involving racist language. When the meeting reopened, Mayor Ray Smith announced the outcome, followed by Councillor Allison Bryant unexpectedly resigning. It is not yet known whether a by-election or countback will fill the vacancy.

The Member for Clarence Richie Williamson has criticised the NSW Minns Labor Government over the Great Koala National Park, claiming new information shows koala numbers are not declining and accusing the Greens of spreading misinformation.

In community news, traditional Christmas carols will be held tonight at Christ Church Cathedral in Duke Street, while the Grafton Chamber of Commerce has begun planning its next International Women’s Day event.

The PCYC Grafton School Holiday Program is set to begin soon, with new activities added for older girls.

**Coming up on Loving Life Local News this morning (Thursday 18 December):**

We’ll reflect on a powerful vigil held in Grafton last night, where the community stood together with Jewish leaders and local churches in unity, compassion and peace following the tragic events in Sydney.

It’s also a big day at Clarence Valley Council, with the final meeting of the year set to tackle ongoing debates, including the future of the old South Grafton pool complex and proposed changes to the code of meeting practice.

We’ll preview a free family fun day hosted by Anglicare North Coast tomorrow – with food, activities and a very special arrival by Santa on a fire truck.
