This is the third instalment from day one of a series of interviews with Bill Wigzel recorded at Bill's home at Cherry Gardens in 2011.
Day 1
Chapter 3.
We begin discussing "Bills' early days of motorbike racing on the bitumen. Following a death, road racing was suspended.
Bill, the salesman selling his mate's bike, meets Peter
Mildren, an Adelaide Eye specialist, offers Bill a ride on the ex-Lindsay Mitchel J*p.
Bill rides it at Kilburn.
Rowley Park is calling. Kym Bonython has a race car at the new Rowley Park Track. Bill is working on Kym's race car. At the time, Bill is also riding his Solo at Kilburn.
Jack Young and Bob Leverance are competing overseas, ranked 1 and 2 in the world. While they are away overseas, Bill sees an opportunity for him.
Kym Bonython buys Rowley Park and invests in promoting the new track, buying 3 cars. Bill immediately maintains these cars and Kym's own racecar. It is a busy time for young Wigzell.
Bill gives up Solo racing.
Rowley Park becomes a demanding role for Bill, Bonython bus the Brabham Twin another car to maintain.
Day1.
Chapter 4
Bill leaves Alec Rowe's workshop. Picked in the Solo team to represent the State in Perth.
Returns to Rowley Park working for Kym Bonython.
More on the Brabham twin fits a V8 Sixty for an upgrade details how the US drivers were modifying the motors.
Bill was injured in the Brabham. Time out of track racing for 2 years. Bill races boats for Lawton Agencies.
Back with Alec, racing on track again.
The first night, he won the night, powered a consul motor.
Bill reflects on earlier days with stories of his dad. He rides his dad's bike and describes how it was fueled when it was tough to buy fuel, Turps even.
