A MAN CHARGED WITH K*LLING THREE PEOPLE INSIDE A HOLLYWOOD APARTMENT PLEADED NOT GUILTY THIS WEEK

Patrick Kevin Spurlock is accused of m*rdering Jeremiah Badeker, Jack Cartegena and Michael Bogacz on July 24 at a residence on the 1900 block of Wilcox Avenue. According to authorities, an altercation broke out and the three victims were ordered to the floor at g*npoint before being sh*t multiple times.

Spurlock wasn't arrested until August 13, nearly three weeks after the killings. He was formally charged August 17 with three counts of m*rder, along with special circumstance allegations for multiple m*rders and for having a prior m*rder conviction, plus an allegation that he personally and intentionally fired the weapon. Those special circumstances can raise the stakes significantly at sentencing.

Last Friday, a judge found Spurlock mentally competent to stand trial. He entered his not guilty plea at Monday's arraignment and is due back in a downtown Los Angeles courtroom on September 4.

If convicted as charged, Spurlock could face life in prison without the possibility of parole, or the death penalty.

What could turn one altercation into a triple homicide?

A MOTHER AND HER 2-YEAR-OLD DAUGHTER WERE K*LLED BY A LIGHTNING STRIKE IN MARGATE, FLORIDA, WHILE HER HUSBAND WATCHED

Kenya Glasgow, 31, and her daughter Kennedi were struck around 2:30 p.m. Sunday and found on the sidewalk, according to the Margate Police Department. Kennedi's father, Kam Glasgow, told the Post he was hit by residual current from the same strike and saw his wife and daughter go down beside him.

First responders performed CPR at the scene and rushed the two to separate hospitals, where they were each pronounced dead. Kenya and Kam had been together since they were teenagers and married four years ago. Kennedi was a twin; her sister, Kensli, survives her.

In a tribute posted online, Kam described his wife as someone who "only cared about everybody else and never cared about herself," and said the family is now leaning on relatives and friends to get through the loss.

According to the National Lightning Safety Council, Kenya and Kennedi are the 11th and 12th lightning fatalities in the US this year. The incident remains under investigation by Margate Police.

A SOUTHWEST AIRLINES FLIGHT ATTENDANT WAS FOUND DEAD DURING A LAYOVER IN HAWAII AFTER APPARENTLY FALLING FROM THE 24TH FLOOR OF HER HOTEL

Jenny Lupton, 50, of Moore, Oklahoma, had worked as a Southwest flight attendant for 23 years. She was staying at the Hilton Hawaiian Village in Waikiki when a hotel staffer found her body near a dumpster early Thursday morning. Medical examiners said it appeared she fell from her balcony.

Her family was not notified until roughly 24 hours after her body was found, and they say they do not believe her death was intentional. Her sister, Tresa Lupton, told KFOR the family believes it was either a freak accident or that someone harmed her, and that they are still waiting for answers.

By her family's account, Lupton had spent the evening out dancing with a fellow flight attendant and had gotten a new tattoo just hours before her death. She leaves behind a 15-year-old son, Kaleb, and is being remembered by relatives and friends as warm, funny, and deeply loved.

The investigation into her death remains ongoing.

A GEORGIA WOMAN IS FACING A FELONY CHARGE AFTER WITNESSES SAY SHE THREW THREE KITTENS OUT OF A MOVING CAR

Valentina Tobon Henao, 25, was arr*sted after Brookhaven police say she tossed three kittens from a silver Toyota Sienna while driving along Osborne Road. A witness, Maria Stewart, said she saw the kittens flying out the window, followed the car, and photographed the license plate at a red light before calling police.

One kitten was found d**d in the roadway. A second survived with a dislocated tail and is now recovering after being sedated overnight. The third kitten went missing for days until community members and police found him safe near Brookhaven Park.

"It's nonsensical. It's diabolical," Stewart told reporters. "I just think this person's a monster to have done that."

Henao has since been released on bond and is awaiting her next court date. Police have not released a motive or confirmed the total number of animals involved.

What would make someone do this?

A PREGNANT WOMAN'S BABY WAS SAFELY DELIVERED 30 MINUTES AFTER SHE D!ED IN A NINE-STOREY FALL IN LEEDS

Emma Atkinson, 38, was seven months pregnant when she fell from a window at her father's flat in Shakespeare Towers, Leeds, on 22 October 2024. Paramedics pronounced her d**d at the scene, and her body was taken to Leeds General Infirmary, where doctors performed an emergency caesarean section.

Her daughter was born shortly after and sustained injuries from the fall, including a punctured lung and a fractured tibia, requiring several weeks in intensive care. She has since recovered and is now 21 months old, reportedly being raised by family members.

A Wakefield coroner's inquest returned a narrative verdict, finding that Atkinson had "deliberately propelled herself" from the window but was unable to determine whether she intended to end her life. The court heard she had been experiencing poor mental health and was worried about a shoplifting-related court matter at the time.

Her father told the inquest he believed his daughter meant to end her life that morning, while other family members said she would never have intentionally left her children. The coroner said other evidence, including her plans with family in the days ahead, made it impossible to say for certain.

This is a sensitive case involving a possible su***de — anyone struggling with their own mental health can reach out for support if needed.

A PITTSBURGH TEEN WAS KIDNAPPED BY A MAN SHE MET ONLINE — AND SHE'S NOW SPENT YEARS TURNING THAT ORDEAL INTO A LAW THAT PROTECTS OTHER CHILDREN

Alicia Kozakiewicz was 13 years old on New Year's Day 2002 when she left her family's home in Pittsburgh to meet someone she had been chatting with online for several months. She was abducted, driven roughly five hours to Virginia, and held captive for four days, during which she was ab*sed by her captor.

Kozakiewicz has said publicly that she was found and rescued by the FBI after a viewer of an online broadcast recognized her from missing-child alerts and contacted authorities. Her kidnapper, Scott Tyree, pleaded guilty in 2003 to taking a minor across state lines for sexual purposes and producing sexually explicit images, and was sentenced to nearly 20 years in pr*son.

Since then, Kozakiewicz has worked as an advocate for internet safety education and helped pass "Alicia's Law" in nine states, which directs funding to task forces that investigate crimes against children online. She has said she is now pursuing a graduate degree in forensic psychology.

This account is drawn from Kozakiewicz's own public statements and the confirmed outcome of her kidnapper's criminal case.

TENNESSEE MAN SENTENCED TO 77 YEARS FOR TARGETING CHILDREN THROUGH ONLINE EXTREMIST NETWORK 764

A federal judge sentenced 27-year-old Kyle Spitze of Tennessee to 77 years in pr*son this week for his role in 764, an online network the FBI classifies as a form of nihilistic violent extremism. It is reportedly the longest federal sentence handed down so far for any associate of the group.

According to prosecutors, Spitze — using the online name "Criminal" — targeted, groomed, and extorted young girls online, pressuring victims into self-harm and other acts on video calls. Prosecutors say two of his victims later died by su*cide. Spitze has claimed online to have groomed more than 2,600 victims; that figure comes from his own statements and has not been independently verified.

Court documents describe one case involving a 12-year-old girl who was manipulated and threatened over an extended period. Spitze pleaded guilty in late 2024 to charges related to child s*xual ab*se material and animal cruelty. His father was separately arr*sted and sentenced to nearly six years in pr*son for tampering with a victim on Spitze's behalf.

The FBI says it currently has more than 450 open cases tied to nihilistic violent extremism, nearly double the number from a year earlier. The 764 network was founded in 2021 by a then-15-year-old in Texas and has since spread internationally.

Federal officials say sentences like this one are meant to serve as a deterrent to other members of the network.

A WOMAN LIVED AS A CHILD FOR 15 YEARS AND A FAMILY NEVER KNEW THE TRUTH

Amanda Maria Souza de Oliveira is 37 years old. For over a decade, she reportedly lived as a child, using a high-pitched voice and claiming she'd been forced onto hormones to explain her appearance.

Her biggest con came when a family in Brazil took her in as their daughter, believing she was a 12-year-old who had fled ab*se. She lived with them for 14 months before the truth came out.

This week, a court in Santa Catarina found her guilty of fr*ud and false identity. She was sentenced to one year, six months and 10 days in prison, plus additional detention time.

Her lawyer argued she never profited financially and that the false identity was simply "how she survived" after years of vulnerability and homelessness. Oliveira herself said she never meant to scam anyone, only to feel the care she never had as a child. Her legal team says they plan to appeal.

What would make someone give up their real identity for 15 years?

CLERMONT COUNTY, OHIO — CHAD DOERMAN K*LLED HIS THREE SONS IN JUNE 2023

The Clermont County Sheriff's Office has released a new interview video in which Chad Doerman admits to k*lling his three sons — Chase, 3; Hunter, 4; and Clayton, 7 — in June 2023.

In the footage, Doerman tells detectives he sh*t his sons "for God," referencing a Bible story his father once read to him. He said he had attended a church service earlier that day and could not stop thinking about the story afterward. He did not name the scripture, though the account most closely resembles the story of Abraham and Isaac in Genesis 22.

Doerman pleaded guilty in August 2024 to three counts of aggravated m*rder and two counts of felonious *ssault, related to the deaths of his sons and attempts to harm two other family members. As part of the plea deal, he was sentenced to life in pr*son without parole, avoiding the death penalty.

A specific motive was never officially confirmed. In the interview, Doerman said he had been struggling with fear of going to hell and had been seeking help for those thoughts.

This case remains one of the most disturbing in Clermont County's history.
