A MAN CHARGED WITH K*LLING THREE PEOPLE INSIDE A HOLLYWOOD APARTMENT PLEADED NOT GUILTY THIS WEEK
Patrick Kevin Spurlock is accused of m*rdering Jeremiah Badeker, Jack Cartegena and Michael Bogacz on July 24 at a residence on the 1900 block of Wilcox Avenue. According to authorities, an altercation broke out and the three victims were ordered to the floor at g*npoint before being sh*t multiple times.
Spurlock wasn't arrested until August 13, nearly three weeks after the killings. He was formally charged August 17 with three counts of m*rder, along with special circumstance allegations for multiple m*rders and for having a prior m*rder conviction, plus an allegation that he personally and intentionally fired the weapon. Those special circumstances can raise the stakes significantly at sentencing.
Last Friday, a judge found Spurlock mentally competent to stand trial. He entered his not guilty plea at Monday's arraignment and is due back in a downtown Los Angeles courtroom on September 4.
If convicted as charged, Spurlock could face life in prison without the possibility of parole, or the death penalty.
