A NEW chapter in Glenorchy’s foreshore story has been completed, with a series of projects creating an improved walking connection between Windermere Bay, Connewarre Bay and Lowestoft Bay.
The completion of the 645-metre Windermere Foreshore Track, linking Knights Point Reserve with Connewarre Bay Reserve, along with a new boardwalk and bridge at Windermere Bay, provides a more connected and accessible walking experience through one of the Derwent Estuary’s significant coastal environments.
Funded by Glenorchy City Council, the track, boardwalk and bridge have been designed to improve access and connection for the community while protecting the area’s important environmental and cultural values.
Much of the track was constructed using a no-dig methodology, reducing ground disturbance and helping to protect areas of potential Aboriginal cultural heritage significance.
Glenorchy Mayor Sue Hickey said the new foreshore connection provides more opportunities for residents and visitors to enjoy the natural beauty of the River Derwent. For more click the link in the bio.

GREATER Hobart’s small business community was celebrated in style at the 2026 Greater Hobart Small Business Excellence Awards, held at RACV Hotel Hobart.
Hosted by Alex Johnston, the evening brought together business owners, community leaders, sponsors and supporters to recognise the people and enterprises making an important contribution to the local economy and community.
Established by Business Greater Hobart, the awards celebrate the people, operators and teams behind the region’s small businesses and give them the recognition they deserve.
Hundreds of nominations were received from businesses across Greater Hobart, with 21 finalists recognised across the award categories.
The 2026 winners included Happy Larry Deli for Emerging Small Business, GDA Group for Professional Services, Southern Automotive for Trades and Construction Excellence, Emerge Business Solutions for Innovation and ICT, Personal Best Fitness for Customer Service Excellence, TEDx Hobart for Inclusion, Equity and Belonging, and Florage Tasmania for Leadership, Sustainability and Community Impact.

A GROUP of young Tasmanian performers will explore fear, division and hope when DRILL Performance Company brings its latest contemporary dance work, Deep Dark Tales, to Hobart’s Theatre Royal.
The youth-led production draws on folklore, cautionary tales and mythical creatures to create a world of monsters that reflect some of the challenges facing young people today.
Through a series of theatrical vignettes, the performers explore themes including climate grief, isolation, division, social cohesion and hope, using allegory and symbolism to encourage audiences to consider the world around them.
Eleven young performers have been developing Deep Dark Tales collaboratively since April alongside DRILL Artistic Director Tara Robertson and choreographers Tyrel Dulvarie and Gabriel Comerford. For more click the link in the bio.

THE Theatre Royal stage is set to be transformed as preparations ramp up for the upcoming production of Agatha Christie’s classic thriller, And Then There Were None. Bringing the 1930s-era atmosphere to life is renowned Exit Left costume designer Suzen Parnell.
Ms Parnell, who has been working closely with the production team, is responsible for creating the complete collection of costumes for the cast.
The project, commissioned by John X Presents, involves extensive design and construction work to ensure each character’s look reflects the tension and period detail essential to Christie’s masterpiece.
Design work for the collection commenced earlier this year, with Ms Parnell recently visiting the Theatre Royal Hobart in late July to conduct essential measurements on-site.

TASMANIANS came together to support people impacted by cancer as Daffodil Day marked its 40th year nationally.
Cancer Council Tasmania aimed to raise $250,000 through this year’s campaign, helping fund cancer research and support services for Tasmanians affected by the disease.
Across the state, 4,865 bunches of fresh daffodils were made available at 51 stalls, alongside a range of Daffodil Day merchandise.
Cancer Council Tasmania Community Fundraising Manager Zoe Vandervelde said the familiar yellow flowers provided people with a simple way to show their support.
“Everyone knows when they see daffodils over the next couple of days across Tasmania that they can buy them and know that they’re supporting Cancer Council and a cancer-free future,” Ms Vandervelde said.
For Hobart mother Barbie O’Breza, Daffodil Day held a particularly special meaning.
Her son Ollie was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive high-grade glioma at just 12 years old and fought the brain tumour for two years before passing away at 14.
Ms O’Breza remembers Ollie as a kind-hearted boy who loved gaming and was always keen to get his hands on Cancer Council merchandise.
“He didn’t ever want anybody else to go through what he was going through, especially a child,” Ms O’Breza said.
“If he was here, he would do it himself, so I have to do it for him and for others, ’cause there’s lots of people that cancer touches every day.”
Ms O’Breza said her family knew firsthand the importance of support for families affected by cancer.
“While we don’t have a future with our Ollie, we have so many wonderful memories that we wouldn’t have without the support of Cancer Council Tasmania and cancer research,” she said.
Cancer Council Tasmania CEO Alison Lai said Daffodil Day was about much more than fundraising.
“No family should have to face cancer alone,” she said.
“Daffodil Day gives our community an opportunity to come together, remember loved ones, support people currently facing cancer and help fund the services and research that make a real difference.”

AFTER a long wait, Glenorchy War Memorial Pool is getting ready to welcome swimmers back, with the newly refurbished facility reopening on Thursday 1 October 2026 and a community celebration planned for Saturday, 3 October.
The celebrations will include a special First Splash event for 25 lucky swimmers, along with free entertainment, food and community stalls.
Council will match every dollar raised, with all proceeds going to support local children access swimming lessons.
The pool was closed in 2023 after an independent condition assessment identified significant safety issues.
Now, the community will have the opportunity to celebrate the pool’s return in style.
The opening will begin bright and early, with 25 lucky swimmers getting the chance to make history as the first members of the public to jump into the newly opened pool.

THE Hobart Convict Penitentiary is continuing to attract attention after being named the Number One Top Attraction across Australia and the South Pacific in Tripadvisor’s 2025 Travellers’ Choice Best of the Best Awards.
Originally established in 1821 as the Hobart Prison Barracks, the site played a central role in Tasmania’s convict history, with around 62,500 men passing through before being assigned to labour across the colony.
One of the site’s most recognisable features, the Penitentiary Chapel, was completed in 1834 and remains one of Tasmania’s most significant heritage buildings. For more click the link in the bio.

THE Glenorchy War Memorial Pool will reopen on Thursday 1 October, following an extensive refurbishment.
The official opening will mark the return of one of Glenorchy’s most popular recreation facilities, with the community invited to attend.
A second community celebration is also planned for Saturday 3 October, to coincide with the start of the school holidays.
While the full program is still being finalised, the event will feature activities in and around the pool.
Work on the refurbishment is now in its final stages, with Hutchinson Builders completing site clean-up and commissioning works. For more click the link in the bio.
