208L Containers – “Secret Servers” by Andy Read Next Blue Zero – “Confusion” There’s something both disarming and delightful about Tasmanian band 208L Containers’ new single, “Secret Servers.” Slicing low over post-punk, but not without a kind of discordant funk, the cut cribs fr...

Happy release day to longtime favourites The Native Cats who’ve blessed this new financial year with a splendid double a-side 7” single on Rough Skies records.

‘Aces Low’ is new territory for the group, a laid back but bent luau with a reassuring, what’s-the-opposite-of-a-diatribe vocal performance. It’d fit well in a karaoke medley alongside Nathan Roche’s ‘Magnetic Memory’ and Prefab Sprout’s ‘Moving The River’. I’m regularly touched by this group, but this song touches in a different way.

Alternatively ‘Lose Count’ is on the more agro side o’ things, leaning into hard into the biting and throbbing post-punk impulses the band has honed in on over their frankly, very impressive discography. - Nic

The Native Cats - ‘Aces Low / Lose Count 7” (Rough Skies, 2025) $14.95

P.S. First handful sold come with an interview fanzine.

P.P.S. I photographed this 7” on top of the new Coffin Prick album on Temporal Drift which I’m very excited to get my hands on!

We are thrilled to be stocking the new 7” single by Hobart’s own The Native Cats - “Aces Low/Lose Count”. The first copies sold come with a limited edition hand numbered interview fanzine. Pictured: Julian from the Cats looking as pleased as punch with the band’s new offering and so he should be - it’s another double A side corker. thenativecats roughskies
