Chatting with a few photography clients lately and it had us searching for some photographer website inspo 💡

Here's some of our favourites, with a very simple colour palette coming through and letting the images do the talking.

It can be really easy to overlook words on these more visual website - architecture, photography, videography - for bigger visuals, which is important; but SEO and getting found via search are also important considerations to think about.

On most marketing forum at the moment, allllll the rage is AI overviews and how to rank for these 🤓 so we wanted to break it down a little to help Hobart business owners get their head around this new concept...

To start, you're likely asking "What even is an AI Overview?"

You may have noticed in Google searches recently that an AI overview appears first, above any map pack and organic search results.

Why does this matter?

Each of these results contain a link - and it's no surprise that the higher your website, or link, appears in a search result; the more clicks and visits you get.

As such, appearing in these AI overviews is an important new focus for local businesses looking to drive traffic specifically through search engines.

The question is, how do you rank better for AI Overviews?

We're working on a longer content piece for this, however in the mean time, the team at AHREF's recently put together a bit of a list including:

- Content freshness
- Content relevance
- How well you align your content with user search intent
- Strong brand authority + trust
- Having mentions on external platforms (Reddit, YouTube, forums, review platforms, Google maps) because users use them to validate info from AI overviews

In short, having regularly updated content is important and relevance generally means being specific. Mentions is also an interesting one and seemingly where a lot of the focus in the marketing world is going.

Ultimately, there's no definitive way to optimise for AI... yet. But from our client work, covering off on all bases definitely helps earn some winners.

Instead of Jason, this quick Friday tutorial runs through how you can use JSON in ChatGPT to generate your own icons and illustrations in any style you like.

Just give it a precedence image, generate the JSON code, edit as need and bam - you've got an output that matches the same style, lighting, look and feel.

Let the Souper Bowl begin! 🍲🍲🍲

We're excited to team up with City of Hobart to provide the video package for the winner of the Souper Bowl competition.

What's the Souper Bowl? Over 20 local businesses are going head to head since the start of August, encouraging customers to vote for their favourite soup here in Hobart.

With plenty of diverse and tasty options on offer, we've been following progress closely and are looking forward to working with the winning business on a video consult, shoot and editing of some short format content.

Are you one of the 1.4 million Australians that use Threads? 🧵 The once informative and ad-free app now has... ads.

While this opens up an interesting avenue for businesses to advertise on - particularly given it's already integrated within the Meta (Facebook, Instagram) suite, it's an interesting twist on a platform that was well known for being ad-free.

The question is - should you consider advertising on Threads?

With a lower user base compared to other avenues like Facebook, Instagram, X and TikTok - plus not as much data to inform ad distribution - it's probably not one to fully focus on... yet.

It does have a slightly younger demographic user base however, so there could be some advantages if you want to jump on early, however it's hard to compare it to the bigger platforms at present.

Now - you'll know we love 360... and we love drones. SO A 360 DRONE!? 🤯

That's right, launched yesterday was the world's first 360 drone 'Antigravity A1' by Insta360.

Not only this, it also shoots in 8K resolution. While a bit of a novelty as such, this changes the game of aerial content and immersion.

Here's an SEO tip for your Friday - analyse the top results to improve your rank 📈

A simple (and free) task you can do to round off the week is to search your target keyword in Google and take a lookt through the first few organic results (beyond the ads and map pack).

Open the top three results and take a look at the following elements:
- what does the layout look like
- what headings are they using
- what content sections are on the homepage
- what's their meta title and description

In our video instance, all of the plumbing websites have a large, image based header area with big text.

Noticably all of the websites heavily feature a block of what servies are offered by the business - as well as points of difference.

What we also notice is content length is long on each of these websites - while interesting to note that the three local businesses appear ahead of the directories (Yellow Pages etc).

From your list of observations, analyse how your website stacks up and see if you can make changes accordingly.
