I grew up in Sydney, Australia in a family that never went camping or on outdoors adventures. Therefore, it came as somewhat of a surprise to discover bushwalking and camping in

my mid 20′s and it fast became somewhat of an obsession. Since then, I’ve become a leader with the Sydney Bush Walkers Club and the Bushwalkers Wilderness Rescue Squad, an affiliate squad of the Volunteer Rescue Association. The outdoors totally changed my life and I’m keen to share my knowledge and stories with others – hoping that they’ll catch the bug too! When I’m not out in the bush, I can be found running a Production and Consultancy company based in Sydney, shooting in remote and logistically tricky locations such as jungles, volcanoes and on the high seas. You can email me at [email protected]. In July 2013, as an avid user of their products for over 10 years, I was delighted to be appointed a Macpac Ambassador.

🧀 Entree anyone? Like I needed another reason to love spending a night or two in the bush in winter. Cool temps mean fresh food treats like fried halloumi… you just gotta choose your mates wisely… like those who surprise you with treasures like this. OMG salty squeaky cheesy goodness.

Have you ever made big decisions, like a tree change, to move closer to the things that you're passionate about in the outdoors? I made the big move to the Blue Mountains (from Sydney) a few years ago now and thought I'd share about how it all came about. Q: Have you moved house (or country) to be closer to the outdoors?

Sigh. Don't worry, that's not one of those sighs of frustration or exhaustion. It's one of those sighs of contentment - like settling down into the couch, with a hot cuppa and a slice of

It's one of the great, heroic adventure stories of Australia. It tells of courage, determination and a gritty, no-nonsense 'gut feeling', that pioneering bush men and women hold to. If you've ever thought about heading into the Gold Coast Hinterland to the plane wreck of the Stinson, here's what you might be in for.

Experience what the 37km hike to the wreck of the Stinson Crash plane wreck, through the eyes of Caro Ryan, starting at O'Reilly's Rainforest Retreat.

🌳 “Among the giants” was the theme of the weekend. A last minute suggestion to a mate and a couple of days later we walked out my front door and towards a night among the trees. 🌳
🚶‍♂️ It can be so easy to make excuses sometimes (I know I do), that it’s all too hard to simply put some things in a bag, phone a friend and go for a walk in the bush.🚶‍♀️
🥹 But once I’m out there, it hits different when enormous Blue Gums keep watch and silently see all that we can’t.
🌱 The biophilia reset that calms the senses, awakens curiosity and spreads a blanket of wonder across a busy mind; reminding us that the first step (the mental one) is the hardest.
😣 So although the physical ones that follow can be challenging (did somebody say lawyer vine in head high scrub?) I don’t regret it once I’m out.
Q: Is that just me?

Do you go out bushwalking or hiking with women? If you're a bloke and feel a bit uneasy about the whole 'period thing', well here's the article for you. A 3 day trip, in the backcountry of the Australian Alps, along the Main Range, in late June. We headed out of Thredbo Resort on the Kosciuszko Express chairlift and headed north. Choosing a campsite sheltered from the wind, we dug in a snow camp for 2 nights, including tent platforms and a kitchen/dining area. Day 2 featured a side trip to Mt Townsend (the 2nd highest peak in Australia) and some of the best weather we've seen. Sure, the conditions were a bit icey, being early in the Australian ski season, but we were not complaining.
Day 3 we packed up camp and summitted Mt Kosciuszko (the highest point in Australia), on our way back down to the chairlift and Thredbo, just in time for lunch at the pub. Magic trip!

⛰️Last time I counted the stairs there were 1238, but with a series of landslides and track repairs over recent years, they probably need a recount 😬🙌🏻

Do you love scroggin? I mean GOOD scroggin? I reckon I've found the world's best scroggin on my trip to Tassie and the best part is that I didn't have to make it! Q: What goes into your favourite scroggin (aka trail mix, aka gorp)?

What's your best scroggin mix? Do you go salty? Sweet? Sour? Spicy? Here's what I reckong is the world's best scroggin recipe.

If I ever needed a reminder of the importance of having current Remote Area First Aid Training, it was when my friend broke her wrist in the middle of nowhere, on the last day of a 4 day adventure to Victoria's High Country. Here's the story of what happened... and what we did!

There's so many good reasons why First Aid training is essential for hiking and outdoor adventure. Here's 7 of them, learnt when my friend broke her wrist.
