Lady Spring has arrived! 🌸🌱
A few little snapshots of last term in the Fairy Wren nest...
With the emerging warmth of spring, the children too are responding to the awakening around them.  The flowers are waking from their winter slumber, dressed in their gorgeous spring colours; bees are sipping sweet nectar, and the children are drawn into the garden — digging, building, exploring and getting their hands into the earth.
The freshness of spring is finding its way inside too — sewing, making, baking and busy little hands at work. Our crunchy buns with butter are enjoyed all year round, and for Father’s Day, little hands were pressed into clay to leave a precious handprint for Dad.
Wishing all our Fairy Wren families a happy spring holiday. We look forward to seeing you all again soon. 🌸

the Winter Solstice approaches, our playgroup rhythm turns towards warmth, light, and the comforts of home.

Children spent the morning shaping clay candle holders, rolling beeswax candles, and helping to wash and scrub the table afterwards. Through these moments of meaningful work and care, children experience a sense of belonging within the life of the community.

The sweet scent of beeswax lingered in the room, while warm apple crumble with fresh cream brought a sense of nourishment and celebration to our gathering.

In these moments of gathering in friendship and celebration, we find something of the gifts the Winter Solstice brings: warmth, connection, and the promise of returning light. ✨

As we approach the Winter Solstice, we come to the longest night of the year.

In the quiet of mid-winter, the earth rests. Beneath the cold ground, seeds sleep, gathering sustenance for the seasons to come. Around us, nature turns inward.

At this quiet turning point, the sun once more begins its journey toward us, and day by day the light returns.

As hidden life gathers strength beneath the winter earth, we too are invited to tend the light within, nurturing warmth, hope, and connection through the darker days.

Wishing all our dear families a joyful and peaceful Winter Solstice. 🕯️✨

🍂 Celebrating the seasons in Playgroup 🍂

As the autumn light softens
and the leaves slowly let go,
the season invites us to slow down, to nurture our inner life, and to care for one another.

Children learn so much by watching the adults around them —
how we move, share warmth,
and celebrate the beauty of the season together.

Around our autumn table —
pumpkin homes, little figures, golden leaves —
and in the kitchen,
a room filled with warm spices
and the promise of sweet, soft fruit buns.

Moments to pause,
share warmth,
and enjoy the simple joys of the season 🕯️🍂🎑

Morning light spills into the room as children arrive ☀️. At the table, they gently knock on Mrs Dough’s door to wake her 🥖✨️ Flour-dusted hands squish, stretch, and pat the springy dough 🙌🍞 as “crunchy buns” take shape, the warm, comforting smell from the oven filling the room, 🌿🔥 and the eager question—“are the cwunchy buns weddy?”—lingering in the air 👀💛.

Surrounded by nature’s abundance, our playgroup table offers the freshest harvest delights — crisp beans, juicy nectarines, vibrant zucchinis, nutritious kale, fragrant herbs, and colourful flowers.

Families come together to share their surplus, offering the circle of giving and receiving to all of us. 🌿🍎

As the children settle back into the familiar comfort of indoor play, the new year quietly begins for the adults too 🌿

While the children settle into their morning play — building, stirring in the play kitchen, arranging silks and blocks — the parents gather around the craft table. Needles thread, colours are chosen, and each parent begins decorating their craft bag for the year ahead.

In the warmth of the room, with the hum of play nearby, these bags begin their quiet journey. Over the years they will hold handmade treasures, half-finished projects, and the steady rhythm of friendships forming around the craft table.

And when a child is ready for kindergarten, the craft bag goes with them — becoming their bag for spare clothes. A familiar, well-loved companion for a new chapter.

From first stitches to first school days… such a simple tradition, carrying so much meaning 💛

A little glimpse into our playgroup room 🌿
Prepared with intention, simplicity, and plenty of room for imagination and play.
Each corner has been set with care, ready to hold stories, movement, play, and the everyday magic of being together.

With the first mornings of term just ahead, we’re so looking forward to opening the door and welcoming our families back into this space.
