In reality, the tender never left Pete’s Hobby Railway! Included in the sale back in 2020 of PHR’s 0-6-2T Perry locomotive was the bogie tender that had last been in service attached to the 0-6-0TT Fowler locomotive “Perth”, currently with PHR in parts. The tender had originally been constructed by Hudswell Clarke for use with the Colonial Sugar Refining Co’s 0-6-0 tender locomotives at its North Queensland sugar mills....

I love a sunburnt country, A land of sweeping plains, Of rugged mountain ranges, Of droughts and flooding rains. Wherever I may die, I know to what brown country My homing thoughts will fly. We are one But we are many And from all the lands on earth we come We'll share a dream And sing with one voice I am, you are, we are Australian.

The January-February 2025 issue of Narrow Gauge World, the UK's only newsstand magazine that puts narrow gauge centre stage with yesterday’s history, today’s news and tomorrow’s projects are all covered in detail in their pages, covers the departure of the Perry 0-6-2T locomotive from Pete's Hobby Railway (PHR covered this ourselves in the article Former PHR Locomotive “Chiverton” moves on to a new owner...

From its formative period back in 2015, Pete’s Hobby Railway has relied on a small band of volunteers and supporters – with the likes of Mario, Ben, Dave and Rhys (affectionally known as “The Flunky”) who came on board from the start to build the first stages, soon joined by Rob. Along came Matt as a steam fitter, at times seeking the guidance of his dad Bill who has the same affliction....

Back on August 24, 2020, Pete’s Hobby Railway announced the sale, as the result of an Expressions of Interest, of 1938-built Perry 0-6-2T steam locomotive “Chiverton” to Timbertown at Wauchope. However, Timbertown never took physical delivery of the locomotive which accordingly remained on static display at Pete’s Hobby Railway. Earlier this year, Timbertown decided to relinquish ownership and invited Expressions of Interest for its acquisition....

On Friday 02/07, Pete’s Hobby Railway had the pleasure of entertaining Andrew and Duncan from the Kerrisdale Mountain Railway in Central Victoria -- another 2-ft gauge operation, but very different from ours at PHR! The two arrived shortly after 0900 and stayed for the whole day until being “dragged off” for a quick gander at our other local railway attraction -- the Junee Roundhouse Railway Museum, before it closed for the day at 1600 hours....

One of the aspects of having a web page is that it can be utilised to compile statistics. Of these, the most interesting so far as I am concerned, is who is following the exploits, progress or otherwise, of Pete’s Hobby Railway. Actual names would mean nothing to me, however, the countries of origin do. A recent upgrade of Wordpress, the system used for the PHR web page and its associated Progress Reports, etc., is that it is able to provide me with the country of origin and the number of hits from that country....

Hunslet locomotive “Torpedo” (B/n. 1187 of 1915) was booked for a boiler inspection to take place on Easter Saturday, 16th April 2022. This date had been nominated by our Boiler Inspector as he had a spare date in between a major commercial inspection and testing in Wagga Wagga over Easter. The previous Certificate of Inspection had expired in October 2020, however problems resulting from COVID restrictions had resulted in the locomotive being kept in under-cover dry storage until such time that restrictions were eased, allowing our Boiler Inspector to resume travelling for inspections....
