For decades, the Camel Trophy stood as one of the most iconic and demanding off-road expeditions in the world.

It wasn’t just about vehicles — it was about endurance, teamwork, and pushing through some of the most remote environments on Earth.

We sat down with multi-award-winning photographer, author, and Land Rover enthusiast Nick Dimbleby — who took part in the final Camel Trophy events from 1996 to 2000 — to explore the history of the event, his involvement, and what made it so unique.

Nick has also documented this incredible era in his book *Inside the Camel Trophy: A Definitive History*, offering a deeper look into an expedition that helped shape modern adventure travel.

If you’re interested in the full story, you can find the book here:

If you’ve ever followed the Camel Trophy — or wondered what it was really like — this is a story worth hearing.

Always a good day when you find a snack walking through the bush.

Out in the red dirt we came across what’s commonly known as a native bush banana — a traditional bush food found throughout arid Australia. Crack it open and inside are tightly packed seeds surrounded by a soft white flesh and milky fibres.

The taste? Surprisingly fresh and slightly sweet, with a texture somewhere between a crisp cucumber and a young snow pea. After a long afternoon in the scrub, it made for a pretty decent afternoon tea.

It’s a good reminder that the Australian bush has provided food and medicine for thousands of years — if you know what to look for.

Some people pass through the outback…

Others build their life around it.

Jamie Haldzen — known as the Australian Bushman — is one of those people.

From his early days through to his involvement with 4WD Action and the Off Road Adventure Show, Jamie has spent decades living and working in some of the most remote parts of the country.

This isn’t just about vehicles or tracks — it’s about a way of life, and a connection to the land that most people only get a glimpse of.

We sat down with Jamie to hear his story.
