On this day in 1985, the Do-Ré-Mi single “Man Overboard” debuted on the Australian charts (June 17)

Their debut single from their debut album “Domestic Harmony” was penned by the band members, lead vocalist Deborah Conway, drummer Dorland Bray, bass player Helen Carter and guitarist Stephen Philip.

It sure made everyone sit up and take notice as Do-Ré-Mi burst onto the Australian music scene, mainly due to the uniqueness and quality of singer Conway, the confronting lyrics, and the engaging rhythm of the song.

The video was on high rotation on the burgeoning number of video shows of the mid-80s, as the song peaked at #5 on the charts.

In 2001, bass player Carter recalled the problems Do-Ré-Mi had with their record company over "Man Overboard" for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation TV series “Long Way to the Top”:

"There was a real hit-maker mentality ... people would say 'It can't be a hit – it doesn't have a chorus... You're talking about p***c hair, oh my God!'"
