TIPS
Please remember there's no such thing as perfect security online, and there is no one tool or technique that will protect you from everything. However, you do have a right to share information anonymously and if that is your desire you should think about the following:
- The easiest way to accidentally identify yourself is by using computers, phones or internet networks that are linked to you (your work computer, your personal phone or your home wifi network) - instead, use a friend's phone or use public wifi.
- Originals of documents often contain physical or digital traces that can identify their origin - instead, use a camera (preferably not a smartphone) to take photos of documents and send us the photos via ProtonMail.
- When communicating online, use tools designed to enhance privacy, such as the Tor browser - https://www.torproject.org/ - and the Tails operating system - https://tails.boum.org/.
- If you're interested in learning more about how to communicate securely online, the Electronic Frontier Foundation has some useful information here: https://ssd.eff.org/.
