On Saturday October the 11th on Radio Blue Mountains from 9 to noon – tune in to The Theme Machine with Paul Murphy Young for the 44-track playlist ‘Jeans On’. It’s a bunch of tunes that make reference to jeans, denim and dungarees, mainly in the song titles. Featured artists include Jonathan Richman, Kings Of Leon, ZZ Top, The Donnas, David Dundas, David Bowie, Eddie Fisher and The Gaslight Anthem.

On Sunday (a day late this week) October the 5th, from 9 to noon, The Theme Machine (in the 8th year on Radio Blue Mountains) with Paul Murphy Young, presents ‘Transport Suite 2025’ a 42-track playlist consisting of sets of three songs about travelling via land, sea and air, in that order, alternating throughout the show. Featured artists include Madness, The Cure, David Bowie, Radiohead, Kevin Johnson, Johnny Warman, Tom Petty and OMD.

EDIT: listeners in Queensland and W.A.; and internationally in N.Z., U.K., Japan and elsewhere (you know who you are 😉) should be aware that Daylight Savings starts in NSW in the early hours of Sunday morning. Watch out regional fans too! Vic and Tassy listeners will be on the same time as well but watch out nevertheless … 😂

On Saturday morning the 27th of September from 9 to noon tune in to The Theme Machine with Paul Murphy Young on Radio Blue Mountains for the 40-track playlist ‘The Sky’s The Limit’. These are essentially songs with the word ‘sky’ in the title or titles, or that are about the wild blue yonder. Featured artists include The Isley Brothers, Screaming Blue Messiahs, The Allman Brothers Band, Moby, The Alan Parsons Project, The John Butler Trio, The Jeff Healey Band and Queens of the Stone Age.

On Saturday September the 20th on Radio Blue Mountains from 9 to noon – tune in to The Theme Machine for ‘Lunar Tunes’. Not ‘Looney Tunes’ — though some are whacky tracks! This show consists of 41 songs addressing various ‘aspects of the moon’. 😉 Featured artists include ELO, REM, XTC, AC/DC, INXS, The B-52’s, Supertramp and Radiohead.

Every week on the Theme Machine (on Radio Blue Mountains) the theme changes. On Sunday (not Saturday this weekend) – September 14 from 9 to noon — the theme IS ‘Changes’. To be precise, it’s called ‘Changes One Playlist 2025’, and is a revised version of a show from years ago, consisting of 42 tracks with the word ‘change’ or similar in the title(s). From Bowie to Ozzy and from Ferry to Frampton, from Zombies to Stranglers to Spooky Tooth and a host of others. ‘Look out, you rock 'n' rollers!’ That quote should be familiar …

On Saturday the 6th of September from 9 to noon, Paul Murphy Young’s The Theme Machine presents the 34-track playlist ‘Guitar Gods – The 2025 Reboot’, featuring tunes by several of the most outstanding guitarists over the past few decades. From AC/DC to ZZ Top thru’ Gilmour and Green, via Vai ‘n’ Vaughan, it’s an all-star lineup — and a revamped version of a show from 2022.

This 45-track playlist consists of songs with the words ‘school’ or ‘fool’ (or similar) in the titles, alternating throughout, and is a sequel to the show held on the previous Saturday morning. Featured artists include James Brown, Jamiroquai, Bob Seger, The Bluebells, Frankie Lymon, Belle & Sebastian, Joe Dolan and Duffy.

Saturday August 23, from 9 to noon, The Theme Machine with Paul Murphy Young presents ‘Schooled Or Fooled — The Reboot’. This 43-track playlist consists of songs with the words ‘school’ or ‘fool’ (or variants thereof) in the titles, alternating throughout the show. The idea appealed to me because the words rhyme and yet arguably have essentially opposite meanings. Featured artists include The Jam, The Donnas, The Runaways, The Wombats, The Meteors, The Stone Roses, The Winter Brothers and The Blue Caps.
