This is one of our biggest pet peeves on social media and we see it constantly. 😤
Text over a busy photo that you just. cannot. read. We get it, you've got a great image and you want to use it. But if your audience can't read what's on it, it's working against you.

Yes, you can add a text background or an outline, but let's be honest, it rarely looks great.

Here's the Canva trick we use instead = a simple gradient overlay that lets your image breathe AND makes your text actually readable. (No clunky text effects 🙅‍♀️)

Updating your operating hours for a public holiday might seem like a small thing, but it's really not.

Nothing is more frustrating than planning a visit to a small business, driving across town, or making it part of a day out, only to arrive at a locked door. We've all been there, and it's not a great experience.

So, take this as your reminder to check and update your hours across your social media, Google Business Profile & website.
Especially if you're a bricks and mortar store, this one is non-negotiable. Your customers are planning around you, make it easy for them.

And if your business hours have recently changed, same applies. A two-minute update could save someone a wasted trip and protect the impression your business leaves. 🙌

On Friday we headed along to the Warrnambool Business Lunch, hosted by Warrnambool City Council at Lady Bay Resort, with Matty Monk as MC, and it was exactly the kind of afternoon we love. Good food, great conversations, and a room full of local business owners who are genuinely invested in this community.

The speaker panel was a highlight. We heard real stories and insights from Danielle at Skinfit body & beauty Warrnambool, Marcus at Norton Motor Group Warrnambool, and Scott and Nicole from Schnitz ... everything from risk, mentors, work-life balance, AI, and appreciation for the local Warrnambool community for backing local business.

We went last year as well, and we'll be back again in 2027. 🙌

Instagram's Head, Adam Mosseri, recently confirmed the metrics that *actually* drive your reach, and the internet has been busy ranking them ever since. Swipe through and save this post ... you'll want to come back to it.

Some notes:

* Skip rate is widely considered the most important signal. "New stock available" is a skip. "You've been asking for this for months, and it's finally here" is a stop.

* A share is stronger than a like, every time. Relatable truths, local references, and useful tips get shared.

* Like rate still counts, just don't chase it. Likes are not a measure of success (they feel good but they don't tell the whole story).

* A great indicator of how 'useful' your content is. Think about the questions your customers ask you in person every week. Answer them on social media.

* A repost is someone publicly vouching for your content. Local community content, shoutouts, and shared experiences resonate strongly.

* Comments are great for community, but less powerful for reach. Responding to comments still matters because it builds the kind of trust that turns followers into clients.
