If users post comments found to be breaching these conditions we may delete their comment. Why do people ‘like’ status updates about sad topics? When page users ‘like’ status updates about tragic events, it doesn’t necessarily mean they approve of them happening, ‘Liking’ an update is a way of showing support and appreciation of the information shared in the update.

The Fire Danger Period in Cardinia Shire will end on 1st May 2025.

You still need to take relevant precautions and register your burn.

Refer to this link on how to do this.

PLEASE keep in mind, it is still very dry so a fire can spread and take hold very easily. If you can hold off a few more weeks, that would be great.

Information on carrying out planned burns and what you need to do before carrying out a planned burn and notifying fire services.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old,

Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.

At the going down of the sun and in the morning,

We will remember them.

On Sunday 6th April 2025, change your clocks AND check your batteries in your smoke alarms. ⏰ 🔥 🚨
It could safe you and your families life.

If they’re over 10 years old, replace them with new ones (that’s the smoke alarms, not the kids).

There’s no need to get up at 3am to wind the clocks back an hour and check the smoke alarms, you’ll wake everyone up…. Do it all before you go to bed.

Did you know CFA has a free Smoke Alarm Installation Program?

We’ll come to your house, check out your existing alarms and if needed, install new alarms that last 10 years with the one battery! Better still, it’s all for free!

Can you hear an alarm ringing in your head now telling you to take action? Contact our Community Safety Officer for more info:

Tomorrow night 19/3/2025 between 7:00PM and 9:30PM, you may see what looks like smoke coming from the building on our running track (between bowling club and swimming pool).

No need to panic, it’s just us with fake smoke doing Breathing Apparatus training.

Feel free to wander down and watch the crews training from Koo Wee and surrounds; just keep a distance for your safety. You won’t miss us, they’ll be plenty of flashing lights.

TOTAL FIRE BAN for our area 23/2/2025.

No fire can be lit in the open air or be allowed to remain alight in the open air between 12:01AM and 11:59PM.

Bailing hay on very hot days is a common cause for fires in our area. Where possible, PLEASE avoid this. If you can’t avoid it, please follow the guidelines below. Please also tell your farmer mates that may not be on Facebook.

Can you use self-propelled farm machinery, tractors (including balers), slashers, earth-moving, excavating propelled by a heat engine within 9 metres of any crops, grass, stubble, weeds, undergrowth or other vegetation?
This should be AVOIDED wherever possible because the risk of starting fires is extremely high 🔥and the impact of fire on these days may be much greater. 🚒 😰
If the work is ESSENTIAL, follow these GUIDELINES. The equipment:
◦ is free from faults and mechanical defects that could cause an outbreak of fire
◦ is fitted with a spark arrester in working order, a turbocharger or exhaust aspirated air cleaner
◦ carries fire suppression equipment comprising either:
▪ at least one knapsack spray pump, in working order, fully charged with water, with a capacity of not less than 9 litres, or
▪ at least one water (stored pressure) fire extinguisher, in working order, fully charged with water and maintained at the correct pressure, with a capacity of not less than 9 litres.

Note that the spark arrester, the knapsack spray pump and the water fire extinguisher referred to above must comply with the applicable Australian Standards.

This is a fire we attended a little while ago.

On hot windy days, especially total fire ban days, please try and avoid using farm machinery such as bailers etc in dry paddocks. If machinery catches fire, it will very quickly spread in grassy areas.

These fires require a significant amount of resource and time to extinguish and it’s quite often just pure luck that they don’t keep running into more paddocks and bush land.

Remind your mates or family that may not be on Facebook, where possible, to consider choosing a cooler, less windy day if planning using farm machinery in dry paddocks.
