✨ Behind the Cover: Secrets of a Showbiz Dame ✨

I’m thrilled to share the story behind the cover of Stan Munro’s memoir, Secrets of a Showbiz Dame captured by the incredible photographer Jodie Harris at 6-acre studio.

Jodie, a Yamatji photographer working on Bundjalung Country, has long been drawn to exploring identity and place in her work. She first met Stan at the gym and later at the Kyogle Film Academy, and she’s been waiting for the right moment to photograph him for years.

The portrait on the cover wasn’t just taken it was carefully composed in Stan’s home, including personal items that reflect his extraordinary journey. With Stan in partial drag and hairnet, rather than full stage costume, Jodie captured the essence of the man behind the Dame, a moment “in between two worlds” that speaks to our shared humanity.

This portrait went on to become a finalist in the National Photographic Portrait Prize, was exhibited at the National Portrait Gallery in Canberra, and now tours galleries across Australia, including Cairns, SA, WA, and VIC.

The cover image is more than a photograph, it’s the perfect introduction to a memoir full of courage, humour, and unapologetic authenticity.
