Joe Abbott is an up-and-comer in the Hobart music scene whose honest songwriting and warm acoustic sound are capturing ears around the state. Whether performing solo or as one half of acoustic duo Double J, Joe’s style is heartfelt and relatable, inspired by the sounds of Matchbox 20, Pete Murray, The Fray, and classic hits spanning from the ‘70s to now.

In this special acoustic session, Joe brings two original songs that speak to life, pressure, and reflection:

🎵 Waste Another Minute – Written after looking back on moments he stayed in situations longer than he should have, this song pairs melodic hooks with a message about trusting your gut and knowing when to walk away.

🎵 Life Outside of Fear – A thoughtful track about the stress we carry trying to chase our goals and prove ourselves. It’s about pushing through that weight and imagining a life driven by purpose, not fear.

Joe has been singing for six years and now regularly performs covers and original sets across Tasmania. More than just a performer, Joe values connection and sharing his stories in ways that resonate with every crowd he meets.

The Lounge is your inner city home away from home. Treat it as you would a good friend’s place: let yourself relax and unwind, escape the cold, enjoy some good company, leave it as you found it, and leave feeling like your cup is a little fuller.

This oasis of warm, cosy goodness is open to everyone. You're welcome to sit and eat lunch, bring a board game you love, work on a crochet project or jam on the free-to-borrow musical instruments; there are no prerequisites for entry, and no strings attached. Just come along with a smile.

A small announcement 📣

Thanks so much for all the support on YouTube 👁️

Just wanted to share a few thoughts about how this all came together.

This project has taken a lot of work. A mix of doubt, stubbornness, and a real drive to back Tassie's music scene, both the up-and-comers and the ones who’ve been at it for a while.

I always try to help the people I work with however I can. Whether that means working out a price that fits their situation or figuring out ways to get their music out there. These video sessions have become something way bigger than I first imagined. I’ve met so many local artists who are giving everything they’ve got to make the music they love. They’re managing their own socials, booking their own gigs, working full-time jobs, and still finding time to create. I get it. I’m right there with them. But the boat’s not sinking. We’re all in it together, building something better. So grab a paddle.

Tassie’s small, and that’s kind of the magic. It’s easier to connect and collaborate. But being small also means things can grow a bit slower. That’s why we all need to back each other.

NEW COZY ACOUSTICS 👁️

This week, we’re joined by Dvrkworld, lutruwita/Tasmania’s own shoegaze/psych-rock outfit, known for their rich textures, reverb-soaked melodies, and emotionally charged songwriting. Stripping things back for an acoustic set, the band showcases a different side of their sound, revealing the intimate heart beneath their swirling sonic world.

In this session, Dvrkworld performs:

🎵 Bonnie — Named after the drummer’s dog, this one’s about the struggle of becoming who you want to be, or even figuring out what that means. All while wanting to live up to the unconditional love of a pet who thinks you’re already enough.

🎵 Agony — A raw and moving song about instability and searching for your place in a world that feels like it’s shifting under your feet. It’s a reflection of personal unrest and the overwhelming sadness that can come with change.

Since filming, Dvrkworld have performed at Dark M**o (June 7) and are currently on the road celebrating the release of their self-titled debut EP, out now on Psychedelic Salad Records, with shows in Wollongong and Sydney, plus a massive support slot for Luca Brasi at their farewell Uni Bar show in nipaluna/Hobart on June 27.
