Advisory: Aurora Watch for Friday:

A solar storm from Region 4455, associated with the M9.3 flare, is predicted to reach Earth on Friday, 5th June 2026, with aurora activity possible across Tasmania on Friday night into Saturday, subject to clear skies.

Next 2 Day Rainfall / Snowfall Forecast

Showers to continue about the West, South, Southeast and East Coast Thursday easing Friday morning as the Low moves away into the Tasman Sea.

A large area of low pressure lies over Tasmania with its main centre to the northwest of the state. The low complex will slowly move to the east during Thursday morning, directing a fresh south to southeasterly airstream over the state. A narrow ridge of high pressure will then approach Tasmania from the west later Thursday and will cross Friday morning with a cold front to follow later that day bringing Showers but only about the West, Southwest and Far South.

High level Snowfall is expected above 1000m Thursday overnight into Friday.

Gale Warning for the following areas:
Far North West Coast, East of Flinders Island and Upper East Coast

Strong Wind Warning for the following areas:
Derwent Estuary, Frederick Henry Bay and Norfolk Bay, Storm Bay, Channel, Central North Coast, Banks Strait and Franklin Sound, Lower East Coast, South East Coast, South West Coast and Central West Coast

The next marine wind warning summary will be issued by 10:00 pm EST Wednesday.

While daytime temperatures will be much warmer this year, overnight temperatures are expected to be cooler due to pockets of colder but settled clear air behind cold fronts.

This increases frost risks throughout winter and even into our spring months.

Warmer than normal sea surface temperatures around Tasmania will keep Coastal areas mild.

So it's certainly going to be a different winter this year!
