MOVE FM - Water Supply Update 9.00am - Monday 13 October via Lithgow City Council.

Residents should be noticing a return to normal water supply services. Throughout Sunday night Council continued to input water into the network from the Fish River system, Oakey Park water treatment plant and a fleet of water tankers.

Council is working to a full return of water services in coming days. The network reservoirs may take the remainder of this week to fill to capacity.

While Council are working to refill the water network lines and reservoirs please be mindful of your water usage and limit use where possible.

Showers
With services restored to usable levels across the network the showers at Tony Luchetti Showgrounds will not be opened today.
Entry to the JM Robson Aquatic Centre will again be free today for Lithgow residents to access shower facilities.

Water Collection points
Council will not be operating water collection points today.

Review of Water Outage
A review of the outage and response will be conducted by Council with other response agencies.

Council thanks all agencies, volunteers, staff, contractors and community groups who assisted during this outage.

MOVE FM NEWS - WATER OUTAGE UPDATE VIA LITHGOW CITY COUNCIL, 8:45PM SATURDAY 11/10

Lithgow Water Collection Locations - Showgrounds and Emora Park

For those residents that may still not have a water reconnection Council has established water collection points at;
1. The Tony Lucetti Showgrounds (George Coastes Ave) and
2. Emora Park, Landa Street in Bowenfels.
These collection points will be open until midnight tonight (Saturday).

The water available for collection at these distribution points is potable and able to be used for cooking and drinking.
If you are collecting water from these distribution points please bring your own containers to put the water in and follow the instructions of the staff present.

Council is continuing to work on increasing the volume of water coming into the Lithgow water network following high level of use of the water that’s has entered the network over this afternoon. The Lithgow water network has not previously suffered an outage of this scale and the water volumes required for the backfilling of the empty line network have exceeded available inflow volumes throughout today.

MOVE FM NEWS - Lithgow Water Outage Update - 5:30pm Saturday 11 October 2025 via Lithgow City Council.

This afternoon many areas of Lithgow have started to received water through the filling of the water line network. Council is aware that there are still some areas across the town, like Bowenfels, that are only now starting to have water reaching their network lines.
Water from the Fish River water scheme will by early this evening have recharged the Lithgow waterline network providing water to all residents. A waterline network recharge of the extent that has taken place today has never occurred before in Lithgow and the technical teams working on it have had to deal with a range of issues this has presented.

The Fish River scheme and the Lithgow Water Treatment Plant at Oakey Park will shortly commence recharging the local reservoirs that were depleted during the past 24 hours. Until these reservoirs are filled the water pressure across the Lithgow network may still be lower than is normally experienced. The local reservoirs are expected to be full by Sunday morning.

Council acknowledges the difficult situation that has faced residents since the bursting of two main water lines on Friday afternoon. Both waterlines were repaired by Friday evening. Other water network challenges arising from the line damage then required the Fish River water supply to be used to resupply and backfill the Lithgow line network today.

Water reticulation infrastructure is occasionally damaged or breaks. Council will be continuing to review our asset management systems and maintain inspections of the existing components of the whole network to maintain future functionality.

The council is appreciative of the community spirit and support that residents have shown during this difficult situation. We also sincerely appreciate the efforts of all staff who worked diligently throughout the night and weekend to restore service to their community.

MOVE FM NEWS - Water Update - Saturday 11 October, 7.20am via Lithgow City Council.

The water network had depleted more than expected and we are about to source supply from Fish River within 30 minutes. It may still take a couple of hours for enough water to be available to provide water to houses and residents and the pressure is likely to be limited.

As the reservoirs fill during the day it is anticipated that the pressure issues will resolve, and water supply will return to normal to all areas.

We are making arrangement for water and standby from Bathurst Council and RFS and are arranging to open public showers.
Council has appreciated the community’s patience while we worked to resolve this issue.

MOVE FM NEWS - WATER OUTAGE UPDATE @ 7:00PM - OFFICIAL LITHGOW COUNCIL PRESS RELEASE.

Council has repaired the damaged Lithgow 100mm high pressure water line. As the repaired line is recharged with water over the next few hours along its whole length residents will receive normal water services. Due to the way the water lines are connected across Lithgow the recharging of the line and filling of network reservoirs will occur sooner in some locations than in others.

Due to the need to fill the Bowenfels reservoir from a different water line residents of Bowenfels will not have service until later this evening. Council continues to work urgently to fix the Bowenfels supply.
Before using the resupplie
d water for domestic purposes, residents are advised to run the first tap that services their property to ensure the water is clean and any dirt released into the system has been flushed before running internal taps.

Council has appreciated the community’s patience while we worked to resolve this issue.

The Chifley Lithgow District RFS has advised the NSW Rural Fire Service will be conducting low-level aircraft training over the Sunny Corner State Forest today, Wednesday the 17th of September, between 11:00am and 2:00pm as part of preparations for the upcoming fire season.

During this time, you may notice the Large Air Tanker and a smaller Air Attack aircraft flying overhead. These aircraft will be operating strictly over the forest and will avoid residential areas and livestock.
