2LT NEWS - Man dies after car hits tree - Portland

A man has died following a crash in the state’s Central West this morning.

Emergency services were called to Portland Cullen Bullen Road, Portland, about 7.45am today (Wednesday 29 October 2025), following reports of a single-vehicle crash.

Officers attached to Chifley Police District arrived to find the 85-year-old driver trapped after his car hit a tree.

Emergency services rendered assistance; however, he died at the scene.

Investigations are continuing and anyone with dashcam or information is urged to contact Lithgow Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.

LITHGOW GREYHOUND RACING SET TO RETURN IN 2026...

Greyhound racing is set to return to Lithgow in 2026.

A new Deloitte report on racetrack optimisation recommends reducing the number of tracks in NSW to 15. The great news is Lithgow is confirmed as part of that future. The reopening of Australia’s oldest greyhound venue will go ahead next year, backed by $4 million already approved for the project.

Lithgow's reputation as an EV friendly destination continues to grow with the installation of more electric vehicle charging stations at the Lithgow Woolworths Supermarket.

The 2 double charging stations, located in the supermarket's underground carpark, are yet to come on-line, after only being installed in the past week.

These new charging stations add to Lithgow's already existing EV charging locations at the Workies, Club Lithgow, Hungry Jacks, and Lithgow City Council's Eskbank Street carpark.

We're unable to confirm a date when these latest charging stations will become operational.

2LT NEWS - QUEENSLAND TEAMS SWEEP THE 2025 AUSTRALIAN MINES RESCUE COMPETITION.

Teams from QLD have taken the trifecta today at the National Mines Rescue Competition held at the Broadmeadow Mine at Moranbah in QLD.

Centennial Coal's Springvale Colliery, winners of this year's Western Mines Rescue Competition, were one of four NSW teams competing, all of whom performed well but failed to finish in the top placings.

Moranbah North took top honours, Grosvenor were second, and Kestrel took third place.

Moronbah North will now represent Australia at the International Mines Rescue Competition to be held in Zambia next year.

Body located following search for missing man - Oberon

The body of a man has been located following a search for a missing worker on a dam in the state’s west this morning.

About 7:30am today, Tuesday 21 October 2025, emergency services were called to Clover Hills, Jaunter – about 42km south of Oberon – following reports a canoe had overturned.

Officers attached to Chifley Police District – with assistance from the State Emergency Service – arrived and began searching for two men.

A man, believed to be aged in his 30’s, was able to swim ashore.
The body of a 29-year-old man was located in the water around 9:15am.

The incident will be investigated by Safework NSW and a report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
