Morgan Evans Joins Australian Idol Judging Panel

Australian country music star Morgan Evans is heading to one of the biggest seats in Australian television, joining the judging panel of Australian Idol in 2027.

Channel Seven has confirmed the Newcastle-born singer-songwriter will replace outgoing judge Kyle Sandilands when Australian Idol returns next year.

Evans will join returning judges Marcia Hines and Amy Shark , bringing a distinctly country music perspective to the panel.

“I’m stoked to be joining Amy, Marcia and the Idol crew next year!” Evans said following the announcement.

For Australian country music fans, Evans' appointment is another significant sign of just how far the genre has moved into the mainstream.

Long before building an international career, Evans got his own major break through a talent competition, winning the Road to Tamworth competition in 2007.

Since then, his career has taken him from Newcastle to Nashville and stages around the world, with hits including “Kiss Somebody,” “Day Drunk” and “Diamonds.”

More recently, Evans has returned to Australia for a string of major performances, including two sold-out shows at the Sydney Opera House, while continuing his connection with Nashville and the legendary Grand Ole Opry.

Australian Idol viewers also got a preview earlier this year when Evans performed during the 2026 Grand Finale.

Now he'll be on the other side of the stage helping discover Australia's next generation of artists.

Evans says he isn't planning to try to replicate the famously outspoken judging style Sandilands brought to the show.

Instead, he'll bring his own experience as a songwriter, performer and artist who knows firsthand what it is like trying to turn an opportunity into a career.

It's also a pretty remarkable moment for Australian country music.

At a time when local country artists are attracting increasingly large audiences, festivals continue to grow and Australian acts are finding success internationally, one of the country's biggest country exports will now have a weekly prime-time platform in front of millions of Australians.

Morgan Evans joins Marcia Hines and Amy Shark when Australian Idol returns to Channel Seven and 7plus in 2027.

💔 “What a great gift it was to just be her friend.” — Charles Esten

As the shock of Hayden Panettiere's passing continues to be felt around the world, some of the most touching words have come from the people who shared the set, the stage and the music of Nashville with her.

For six seasons, Hayden brought Juliette Barnes to life.

But for her Nashville family, the memories being shared aren't simply about the actress millions watched on television. They're about Hayden.

Charles Esten, who played Deacon Claybourne, remembered first meeting Hayden during the audition process and the warmth and encouragement she showed him from the very beginning.

He remembered getting to work alongside her, getting to sing with her — including recording their beautiful duet “Undermine” — and the extraordinary talent, intelligence and charisma she brought with her.

But after all those memories, Charles summed it up in perhaps the simplest and most heartbreaking way:

“What a great gift it was to just be her friend.”

Sam Palladio, who played Gunnar Scott, said he had been a fan of Hayden before Nashville even began.

When he discovered she would be starring alongside him, his “jaw dropped.”

More than a decade later, his reaction to losing her couldn't have been more different.

He said he was “totally utterly heartbroken.”

And then there was Connie Britton.

On screen, Rayna Jaymes and Juliette Barnes began as rivals — the established Queen of Country and the fiercely ambitious young star threatening to take her place.

Over time, that relationship became something much deeper.

Remembering Hayden, Connie spoke of a woman “bursting with brilliance” — a beautiful description of the energy and talent so many people saw in her.

Her final words were devastatingly simple:

“Sleep easy now.”

Perhaps that's what makes these tributes so difficult to read.

Nashville gave us characters we became invested in, but behind those characters was a group of people who spent years of their lives together.

They recorded together.

They performed together.

They travelled together.

They watched each other grow.

And they became part of one another's stories.

Hayden was only 36.

She had been remarkably open about the battles she fought away from the cameras, even when talking about them couldn't have been easy.

But the memories now being shared by her Nashville family remind us that those battles were never the entirety of who she was.

She was a daughter.

A mother.

A friend.

A gifted actress.

And, as Nashville showed so many country music fans who may never have known it otherwise, one hell of a singer too.

For those of us who loved Nashville, it will be impossible to hear songs like “Undermine,” “Telescope,” “Nothing In This World Will Ever Break My Heart Again” or “Don't Put Dirt On My Grave Just Yet” quite the same way again.

Juliette Barnes was complicated, vulnerable, stubborn, talented and unforgettable.

And by the memories now being shared by the people who knew her, so was the remarkable woman who brought her to life.

Rest easy, Hayden Panettiere.

🕯️ Vale Hayden Panettiere — 1989–2026

The entertainment world is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Hayden Panettiere, who has passed away at just 36 years of age.

While many will remember Hayden as Claire Bennet in Heroes, Kirby Reed in the Scream films, or from Remember the Titans, country music fans knew her for something very different.

For six seasons, Hayden brought Juliette Barnes to life on Nashville.

It was a role that placed her right at the heart of country music, combining acting with her own singing and introducing millions of television viewers around the world to the stories, sounds and culture of Nashville.

Her portrayal of the talented but complicated country star earned Hayden two Golden Globes nominations, while songs she performed for the series found their own audience beyond the television screen.

Beginning her career as a child, Hayden spent almost her entire life in the public eye and built a body of work that reached across generations.

Her family has described her as an incredible light and a force of nature who brought immeasurable love and joy to those who knew her and the millions who watched her on screen.

At only 36, her passing comes far too soon.

For country fans, Juliette Barnes may have been fictional — but Hayden Panettiere's contribution to Nashville and the music that came from it became a very real part of modern country music culture.

Rest peacefully, Hayden. Thank you for the music, the stories and the memories. 🤍

🕯️ The voice that welcomed generations to country music has fallen silent.

Today we remember Bill Cody — beloved radio personality, Grand Ole Opry announcer, storyteller, friend, and one of country music's most familiar voices.

For decades, Bill brought country music into the homes, hearts, and lives of fans around the world. Whether he was behind a microphone at WSM Radio, introducing artists on the Grand Ole Opry stage, or simply sharing a conversation with a friend, he had a gift for making people feel welcome.

Bill's knowledge of country music was immense, but it was his warmth, kindness, and genuine love for people that made him truly special. He celebrated the legends, championed new artists, and helped preserve the traditions of country music while making everyone feel like they belonged.

To country music fans, he was a trusted voice. To artists, he was a supporter and friend. To those fortunate enough to know him personally, he was simply Bill.

His impact on country music cannot be measured by the number of shows he hosted or the artists he introduced, but by the countless lives he touched along the way.

Rest easy, Bill. Thank you for the music, the memories, and the friendship. Your voice will forever echo through the halls of the Grand Ole Opry and the hearts of country music fans everywhere. 🤍
