🚨 Flood Watch – Pioneer River (Mackay region)
🚨 Issued by BOM: 12:10 pm AEST, Thursday 8 January 2026

A Flood Watch is now in place for the Pioneer River, with minor to major flooding possible over the coming days. A strengthening tropical low in the Coral Sea is expected to bring heavy, persistent rainfall and river levels may rise quickly once the system moves closer to the coast.

🌧️ What to Expect
• Heavy rainfall may cause river rises across the Pioneer River catchment
• Local creeks and drains may also respond quickly
• Conditions may change fast depending on the movement of the tropical low

⚠️ Safety Advice
• Never drive, walk or ride through floodwater
• Stay clear of rivers, creeks and stormwater drains
• Follow road closure signs and plan travel early
• Keep monitoring official updates

He’s not only a powerhouse performer on stage — he’s behind the scenes, in rehearsal rooms, and mentoring emerging musicians all year round. And in 2026, his passion for backing the next generation shines even brighter as the host of the Buddy Knox Talent Contest, created to lift up rising stars and give them real opportunities.

With over 40 years on the guitar, Buddy has played blues stages right across the country, twice earning Sydney Blues Society Performer of the Year, and recording multiple albums along the way. His commitment to the music — and to community — runs deep.
