Welcome to the Maitland Waterworld tourist attraction proudly brought to you by a patronising council. But was it by design or just another mishap of willful blindness. Lampooning aside we are grateful to the reader who emailed this dramatic photograph of flooding has it happened outside the post-office during Thursday's hailstorm. On the 17/09/21 the following photo was taken of the carriageway in front of the ANZ bank where B-Doubles and Road-Trains turn onto the Ardrossan Road enroute to the cereal shipping facility. The surface damage is a result of the high volume of heavy vehicles using the "Street" and made worse by the slewing action of their tri-axle trailer bogeys. Therefore Resurfacing of this Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure (DPTI) highway is imminent....

Maybe something will get done about this?
A very strong rumour is there will be a presentation to be held by council at the Information centre, but will be by invitation only (secret ?) . Psssst! W'ere not suppose to know.
Apparently this will be followed by an online survey if you find out when it is, (if you are able to go online?) in a Country Times announcement.
Subject to the result of the survey there may be a PUBLIC meeting in December, (Dec next year from past performance ) to advise the rest of us plebs of what they have decided to do for US, WE the people, the residents, the rate payers; oh the ones who pay their wages?
We can be certain that the proposal will have been prepared by "Dial a Plan" at significant expense from OUR coffers, whilst some highly paid council officer will take comfort from having organised it, Because, surprisingly we don't employ anyone with the appropriate "skill set".
As can be seen it is the usual exercise in transparency designed to fail!
If you are dissatisfied with this exclusion from preliminary input to the proposal then email, phone or otherwise contact your local councillor or one of the members of the town progress association.

A simplistic view of what council could be if it really worked for the residents, managed by the residents.

Having explored the history and form of a council let us consider for a moment what the intent was. Clearly our forefathers concluded that forming a local council would be a way in which the commun…
