Almost a week ago, my son and I were stationary in a line of roadworks traffic (Sandgate) when a high-range drink driver hit us from behind at full speed — no braking, no hesitation.
The impact was violent, sandwiching our car.
The only way out was through my driver's side door.

My son was in the passenger seat.
He doesn't have a scratch on him — that alone is a miracle.

Our oldest daughter was on the phone with us via bluetooth when we were hit — she heard everything.
She and her boyfriend arrived at the scene, and took my son to grab dinner and get him away from it all. It was only once I knew he was safe that my body let me know that something isn't right.
The symptoms hit hard and fast after that. I don't know how to describe it.

Emergency services were delayed by approximately an hour due to another accident in the area.
Hubby reached us before police did. And in that time — the initial adrenaline subsiding — my symptoms were worsening.
I genuinely believed it was the end for me.

My other children were not there. So I poured my words onto my husband — words for them.
Words for their future.
I asked him to pray with me.
Pleaded a police officer to witness me tell my husband that my heart is his, and that my life has been beautiful because of his love and the way he protects our family.

That is what a person who chose to drink and drive reduced me to in those moments. That is the reality. That is what this looks like from inside the wreckage.

I want to be honest — concussion is no joke. The effects are very real, and I am still not functioning properly.
(Please be patient with me as I heal).

To every single person who showed up at that scene and helped when I was not functioning or thinking straight — THANK YOU.
From the bottom of my heart.
You are the reason I believe in people. Our community is truly something special. 💙

To anyone reading this who drinks — please, make a better choice.
Call someone.
Get a cab.
Use a rideshare.
Do absolutely anything other than get behind that wheel.

Hold your babies. Hold your loved ones. Tell them. Don't wait. ❤️

Drink driving is not just illegal — it is devastating.
It is selfish.
And it has consequences that ripple far beyond the moment of impact.
Choose better.
Lives depend on it.

Christmas, to me, has never been about excess —
it’s about sharing, giving, and being merry & bright.
Especially with those who’ve had to go without.

It’s joy and cheer.
Singing a little too loud.
Candlelit carols.
Christmas lights blinking out of sync.
Street BBQs, shared tables, borrowed chairs.

It’s coming together.

Sharing food.
Playing backyard cricket.
Eating far too much — and loving every minute of it.

And beneath all that nostalgia, my real wish is simple:
That 2026 brings more good.
More gratitude.
More kindness for one another.
More connection to what actually matters — our values, our people, our communities.

Most of all,
I hope everyone’s version of a magical Christmas —
whether it’s home among the gum trees,
ocean-side prawn lunches,
a quiet moment remembering,
or something entirely different —
feels real and enough,
exactly where you are right now.

From Spread Kindness Like Confetti —
May we keep choosing warmth, humanity, and each other. 🎄✨

This morning's conversation from a wonderful local, Mel - the founder of Hunter Hands of Hope was stacked up with rapture, tears, connection and understanding.

Relaying for me just some of the lives determinedly influenced by the work they do. Mel's first point to make was the thankfulness for the 'village' of volunteers and contributors that have built up this grass roots idea from park benches, feeding and caring for the homeless to extend with the strategy of aiding those in need - whatever the need.

I have pasted their link here too where you can find out more.

I encourage you to give what you're able - whether that is time, staple products, clothing, blankets or cash. It is afterall, from the communities kindness an generosity that this is all possible.

My heart has exploded with the service to community HHoH so freely offers.

I am enthused to write this next piece, telling you this story, and to additionally help champion their future development.
