There is something really special about recording low wattage valve amps that I love besides the low volume and getting the breakup overdrive sweet spot at reasonable volumes
But with low wattage comes more compression sag limited headroom not a bad thing but a thing all the same

There is equally something special about recording big wattage amps played at the volume they need to be at the sweet spot
The advantage can be bigger headroom more dynamic range etc
Big amps to me are not about being louder or peeling the paint off the wall
Even bigger amps the sweet spot is not on 10 more like 6 or so
It’s the headroom and sensitivity of big iron that truly can be magical if you have the space to open them up
Fortunately I do and can use both low and high wattage amps for the desired outcome

Can be hard to deal with right
Sure there are de essers soothe etc or singing across or above the diaphragm which sometimes are all that’s needed to tame or reduce

Other solutions if your recording the Vocal is to change the mic for that phrase word or verse chorus etc which when you thibk about it can add a different flavour and tone a production element

Another overlooked option is to change the word if the artist is down with that
Keep a thesaurus on hand again it can totally fix the problem and create a new vibe phrasing option

I definitely use these options on a regular basis rather than letting it go to fix in the mix

Another example of turning a problem or mistake into something creative and a feature
Always 2 sides to the coin

Messing about with some tools lately
I’m generally a little sceptical about automatic processes but thought I’d give auto align and Evintide Precision Time align a go
I’m generally pretty manual with phase and time and always trying to get it sounding good wity mics and or using stock p tools time adjustment but I must say this is pretty good and does save time

Another interesting tool is forte again for saving time on repeated tasks like routing colour coding etc
