We went on a walk yesterday
The sun was out.
The dogs were keen.
I already had my joggers on after racing to a morning appointment.
One last minute decision.
Before we left the house.
I grabbed their hats.
I didnt think much of it.
They wear them all the time.
It wasnt till we were a couple blocks from home. Waiting on the corner for traffic to clear to cross the road.
The car across the street.
The driver, i wasnt sure if she was on the phone or talking to someone in the back seat.
Huge smile. Laughter.
We were both inconvenienced by the traffic. Stopped for what felt like 10minutes. But none of us seemed to mind. We'd found common joy.
You see, dogs dont just have an effect on the humans they live with. But complete strangers.
We continued our walk.
"Theyre adorable".
"Theyre so cute".
"Thank you", I reply again and again.
Then, "I had an xyz breed, I lost them last year". And thats how the love and care for a four legged companion turns into connection with others. The opportunity for people to talk, to express themselves, to stay present in the day to day motion of life.
