Something I’ve realised lately:
People often say they support someone…
but ONLY if they understand what that person is doing.
And that’s where things get complicated.
Because understanding is shaped by perception 🧠
By the life we’ve lived.
The beliefs we hold.
The stories we’ve internalised about what is right, normal, or valuable.
So of course there will be moments where someone you love chooses something that doesn’t make sense through your lens of the world.
But that doesn’t mean it’s wrong.
And it doesn’t mean you can’t support them.
Support isn’t about controlling someone’s choices until they make sense to you.
Support is about trust.
Trusting that the person you love is capable of navigating their own life.
Even when their path looks different to yours.
Because real support doesn’t say:
“Convince me.”
Real support says:
“I trust you.”
