Studying herbal medicine slowly the past 3 years has been one of the greatest privileges, and greatest conflicts for me personally.

Studying ‘health’ in a university setting has indeed not quenched my desire to critically evaluate what health, wellness and being ‘well’ looks like for individuals.

Yesterday, in a lecture on ‘stress’ the content lept entirely over what so many know are the key drivers of nervous system related stress including; work-related burn out; inaffordable housing; climate collapse; racial inequality and the almighty system of capitalism we all find ourselves existing in.

There’s no quick fix to any of this.
And sitting in the nuance and “no one way” to be well has become increasingly clear.

An antidote to the disillusion where I can critically evaluate health, unpack a lot of the BS that is taught in the institutions, or that permeates into my psyche through the capitalist/wellness culture I previously prescribed to is: The Root Network.

The Root Network is a place where studying or qualified herbalists, naturopaths and nutritionists can join forces, collaborate on their clinical work, and have critical and curious conversations about how we can co-create a version of wellness that is accessible, inclusive, BS free and rooted in relationship.

I’ve been a member of The Root Network since the early days, and have gained a bucket load of incredible connections here.

I’ve been in deep conversations that have deeply moved and challenged me in my student journey; asked questions that couldn’t be asked in a university setting; received handy medicine making troubleshooting tips; received in-person mentoring and more thanks to this space.

This is a beyond valuable community to join.

If you love the sound of this community, but aren’t a qualified or studying in this world, head over to Miriam’s page for some excellent conversation starters where you can join the convo too.

I got the 🔗 you know where.

Next Sunday 4th May is our FIRE CIDER MAKING day and FUNDRAISER in solidarity with Palestine. 🇵🇸🌿

Please see my previous post for all information if attending this event. If you cannot attend, & would like to support, please see links to Nagham and Shahed’s mutual aid campaigns in my bio.

How you can support:
🇵🇸If you would like to contribute funds to Nagham & Shahed, but can’t attend on the day, you can do so directly to their mutual aid campaigns in my bio.
🇵🇸If you would like a 100ml bottle of fire cider posted to you, send me a screenshot of your $20 min donations to Nagham & Shahed and I will send a bottle to you when these are ready in ~4 weeks

More about Shahed:
Before the genocide, Shahed just started studying a medicine degree in Gaza. She dreams of becoming a surgeon and helping her community. Her university was destroyed and now, she and her family are just trying to survive through the daily violence of this genocide.

“Unfortunately, we do not know what we will eat. The crossing has been closed for more than two months, and no aid has entered. The situation is very, very dangerous. Our lives and souls are in danger. We are very tired and exhausted. Thank you for standing by us and supporting us. It will be a wonderful and beautiful party. Send my love to all your friends there.” - Shahed

More about Nagham:
Nagham is 18 years old from Gaza. Nagham and her family are facing incredibly challenging circumstances. Like many, they are in need of financial support to secure the basic necessities for life and to find a way out of Gaza.

Your generous donations can provide Nagham and Shahed with the means to stay alive and safe. Even a small contribution can make a significant difference in their lives.

Nagham asks “Please, do not leave us alone in this difficult time. Your kindness and support are our only hope”.

Hey friends of from the soil 🌹

Here to let you know the shop has been updated with a few new additions, the main excitement for me being a fresh batch of Rose Tincture.

As you might have seen, this beautiful bright pink English shrub rose (Rosa canina) first flowered in early November and continued through early December, producing a beautifully aromatic and medicinal rose, bringing support and cooling to multiple body systems.

🌹I have worked with Rose tincture for three Summers in a row now, and take rose for their wonderful cooling and sour properties, and as a 'spirit' medicine that brings support in different forms each year. A gentle sweet herb that helps me through the very busy season and gives me a sense of familial support.

🌼 Calendula Sun-body oil is back after a long hiatus, with only three in stock. This oil is deep golden-orange oil, as usual, that gives the skin a nice layer of love to be used as after-sun care on dry and red patches. New label!

🫖 There's one Herbal Infusion 40g pack left over from CSH boxes - this is a cooling, nervine blend including Oat seed/straw, Rose, Lemon Balm, Chamomile, Motherwort and California Poppy. It's a really tasty and sweet herbal infusion to take during the day and evening. Only 1 available.
