V chuffed v grateful v happy to have the opportunity to share herbs with y’all.

The Practical Home Herbalism class was so fun.

🌱 We met 5 medicinal plants in the garden and talked propagating, growing and caring for their growth.
🫚We sowed marshmallow seed to take home. Inside we explored the herbal actions of the root in water and glycerine and made a herbal glycerite!
🍵We explored each of the five plants we met outside as either a fresh or dried herbal infusions and tasted a range of blends for various needs to support our nervous system, digestion, lungs and immune system.
🌼 We prepared a herbal wound heal salve with Calendula, Chickweed & Yarrow.

I said this would be the last but every time I do one I immediately want to do it all over!

Stay tuned and I’ll put a new date (1 last one for the year) up soon. Pop a comment if you’re keen to come along.

Studying herbal medicine slowly the past 3 years has been one of the greatest privileges, and greatest conflicts for me personally.

Studying ‘health’ in a university setting has indeed not quenched my desire to critically evaluate what health, wellness and being ‘well’ looks like for individuals.

Yesterday, in a lecture on ‘stress’ the content lept entirely over what so many know are the key drivers of nervous system related stress including; work-related burn out; inaffordable housing; climate collapse; racial inequality and the almighty system of capitalism we all find ourselves existing in.

There’s no quick fix to any of this.
And sitting in the nuance and “no one way” to be well has become increasingly clear.

An antidote to the disillusion where I can critically evaluate health, unpack a lot of the BS that is taught in the institutions, or that permeates into my psyche through the capitalist/wellness culture I previously prescribed to is: The Root Network.

The Root Network is a place where studying or qualified herbalists, naturopaths and nutritionists can join forces, collaborate on their clinical work, and have critical and curious conversations about how we can co-create a version of wellness that is accessible, inclusive, BS free and rooted in relationship.

I’ve been a member of The Root Network since the early days, and have gained a bucket load of incredible connections here.

I’ve been in deep conversations that have deeply moved and challenged me in my student journey; asked questions that couldn’t be asked in a university setting; received handy medicine making troubleshooting tips; received in-person mentoring and more thanks to this space.

This is a beyond valuable community to join.

If you love the sound of this community, but aren’t a qualified or studying in this world, head over to Miriam’s page for some excellent conversation starters where you can join the convo too.

I got the 🔗 you know where.
