Sunshine FM 104.9 Sunshine Coast

Sunshine FM 104.9 Sunshine Coast The Sunshine Coast's community radio station
playing the music you love. Sunshine FM is the most listened-to radio station on the Sunshine Coast.

We're a not-for-profit broadcaster supported by community-minded businesses and organisations, right across the Sunshine Coast. We run just five minutes of paid content an hour, compared to 20+ minutes on other stations. For our listeners, that means more music, more memories, more often. For our sponsors, it means we help them reach more people than any other radio station on The Coast. We are al

so supported by wonderful volunteers who provide their time and skills in on-air, production, technical and administrative roles. Please visit our website (sunshinefm.com.au) to find out how you can connect with Sunshine FM as a volunteer, a member, a donor or a sponsor. If you like what we do, spread the word about this great little radio station you've discovered! But most of all, we'd like to thank you for your support. It is always appreciated.

Bob Starkie 1952- 2025

It’s with sadness in our hearts that we have to send out this news that early this morning Bob “Bongo” Starkie has passed away. For the past year he has fought the brave fight against Leukemia hoping to get back on the road to perform more shows. Music was in his blood till the very end.

Bob was the guitarist in the iconic Skyhooks, the youngest in the band and he embraced the theatrics from striking facial make up to unique stage costumes. The music always came first and touring and playing onstage was his absolute joy.

The members of Skyhooks are exceptionally saddened by the loss of our band mate, and send their condolences to Bobs family.

"Our Dearest Grand-Daddy-Bop has peacefully departed listening to Chuck Berry. Snuggling with his fur baby Bonnie, surrounded by friends and family.
Daughters Indiana and Arabella, grandchildren Phoenix and Lucia, Partner Chrissy, great mate Ian and son in laws Simon and Chris will miss him dearly. Thank you for all your support, he has felt the love till the very end". (Indiana Starkie)

Take another Rock N' Roll journey tonight on Bob and the Baby Boomers. I'll play a track from the artist pictured who had a huge hit in 1955 before joining a popular TV soapy playing the part of Doug Williams. He was still playing that part right up until his death last year at age 98. He also married his co-star in 1974 and remained married to her right up until his death. Any ideas who it might be? Your clue is "Like Sands Through The Hourglass". I'll get the music happening tonight with a cover of a Steve Lawrence song by a singer born Terence Perkins, but he recorded under a different name, I'll follow it up with a 1960 song by Eddie Cochran. Our Aussie double play in the first hour features Peter Doyle, born in Melbourne in 1949 and became one of the first artists to appear on the Go! TV show. He formed a band in 1967 called Grandmas Tonic and had one hit song before joining the New Seekers. The Masters Apprentices makes up the other Aussie band and in the second hour our Aussie artists feature Johnny Young and another Melbourne Band The Cherokees, formed from Johnny Chesters backing band The Chessmen. Heaps of other great tracks from the 50's & 60's tonight so join me from 8.00pm for 2 hours of the best songs ever on 104.9 SunshineFM
