Mount Alexander Shire Council has officially been recognised as an LGBTIQA+ Specialised Aged Care Service – a nod to the inclusive values they say underpin their approach to aged care.

“This means our staff are sensitive to the unique experiences and needs of older LGBTIQA+ community members,” the Council stated, adding that respect, dignity, and valuing diversity are at the heart of their service.

“We’re proud to receive our LGBTIQA+ Specialisation Verification,” they said, “and we look forward to continuing our work alongside older LGBTIQA+ residents.”

“Peter brings over 30 years of local government experience,” the Council said, calling it the start of an *“exciting new chapter”* for the organisation.

They also gave a shoutout to Interim CEO Sally Jones for keeping the ship steady during the election, budget, and councillor induction.

The City of Ballarat has joined Wiyn Murrup Rangers, Wadawurrung Traditional Owners, CFA and Forest Fire Management Vic for a cool, slow cultural burn at Sparrows Ground.

Led by Traditional Owners, the fire helped reduce fuel and support native regrowth — with green moss still thriving under the ash.

A powerful return to traditional knowledge, healing Country the way it’s meant to be.

After losing her baby boy, Lenny, at 21 weeks, Allanah Crameri took her heartbreak and turned it into something powerful – creating space for others walking the same devastating path.

With no clear support options at the time and feeling completely alone, Allanah took a chance and started a Facebook group for mums who’ve lost a baby.

Her partner Braydon gave her the push: “Just do it – even if one person joins, that’s a win.” And it was. That one step turned into a lifeline for families.

Since then, Allanah’s created Babies Above, a charity she co-founded with five incredible women – Kate Hurley, Emma Maloney, Ashlea Vagg, Maddi Hutchison and Chrissy George.

Together they’ve brought grieving parents together, hosted community events, and started in-person peer support groups – no pressure to talk, just a space to sit and know you’re not alone.

They’ve also raised serious coin – $50K through a gala and a $10K grant – to fund hospital care packs for families who’ve just lost a baby.

“There are people in your own backyard who know exactly how you feel,” Allanah says. “Even if you’re not ready to talk now, we’ll be here when you are.”

If you or someone you know has experienced baby loss, check out the Babies Above Support Group Ballarat on Facebook. It’s a safe space. No judgement. Just kindness.
