Dorcas Maphakela, founder of Oz African TV, reminds us that promoting cultural diversity starts close to home. As we lead into Cultural Diversity Week 2026, we encourage all Victorians to begin where they are, in their neighbourhoods, workplaces and communities, to spark connection and celebrate our shared future.

We’re incredibly excited to return to the Australian TV after a lengthy hiatus!
Gratitude to for the platform, the Community Broadcasting Foundation for support, all of our guests (thus far) and WeFo studios for space and technical support.

OATV was born in 2015/16 as a bold response to media landscape that wasn’t ready but needed to see African stories on Australian TV. With no funding and no clear category for those with resources and influence to support us, we pushed forward with purposes and impact at heart.

After a Covid pause and incredible support from partners including the Community Broadcasting Foundation, the Victorian Government, and Foxtel’s .tv who believed in our voice, we are excited to return to C31 on Friday 16 January and Foxtel’s Aurora later on.

Traditional TV still matters. It brings families together and makes African stories visible, normal, and celebrated.

Can’t wait to share what’s next…

Have you watched OATV before?
